Had to take a break as my read on the Sox was gone in late May. Continue to be impressed with the team, but there does appear to be some chinks in the armor. This sense of comfort (a 7.5 game lead and growing) just isn?t a feeling I?m used to as a Sox fan, but I?ll get used to it. There?s been a lot of talk regarding how Sox park is still a hitter?s paradise even if the Sox don?t have the hitters to exploit it. But they?ve got enough heavy lumber as I?ve seen Frank hit a screaming line drive that got out in 2 seconds, Saw Dye stand and look at a pop up from Shawn Greene and drift . . . and drift. . . and drift . . . to the wall and the ball landed about 20 rows back. You don?t need to be a monster to be successful at this park. Buerhle and Garland have enough control to keep their balls down and not walk runners that score on the home runs but the rest of the staff needs to be concerned.
McCarthy?s high ERA has been blamed on the fact that he plays in a stadium in Charlotte that?s small and he gives up home runs that would be pop-ups in other stadia, but that?s exactly what he?s looking at tonight. He?s been trying to be more selective with the pitches that he puts over the plate, but that?s easier said than done and it may result in some walks tonight. . . that should turn into RBIs with a well placed pop-up.
And then throw in Lima and a Sox lineup that doesn?t have anyone in a slump right now and it?s looks like nothing but the over.
