nice write up guys

nice write up guys

see iowa and usc teams to beat with alot of talent. Iowa will destroy ohio state just like last year. Remember iowa had no running game because of 7 injuries to running backs. This year they're offense will be sick. iowa, michigan, purdue in that order.

Can we please stop dogging Auburn's OOC conference schedule? Auburn is handcuffed in their scheduling because of the FACT that teams do not want to play Auburn. Just as a reminder, here is a list of teams that have backed out of playing Auburn in the past 18 months:
GA Tech
Southern Miss
Bowling Green

Tuberville was speaking at a QB club a month ago, and said he called every AD in the Big 10 and tried to schedule one of them, and his calls went unreturned, or they said they didn't want to come down here, even if AU agreed to go up there and play.

I am fully aware of the fact that Auburn's OOC schedule was not that tough, but it was not because we tried to schedule those creampuffs. We had to schedule La Monroe and Citadel to replace Bowling Green and GT backing out.

So please bring something new to the table for this season, and leave those same tired arguments about last season in the past.

If Washington State had scheduled Auburn last season, they would've gotten beat down, which is the reason why they will never come down here. So no more blaming Auburn for the fact that teams are scared to play them. :)

Hey, Auburn, Washington State will play Auburn tomorrow if they will play home and away - and what's more, I'm sure Washington State will go to Auburn, first. So, have your A.D. call Washington State.

No doubt you are tired of hearing about Auburn's OOC last year. Washington State's joke OOC this year is based on the very same reluctance for teams to play us. So, when you were critical of our OOC schedule this year, I thought it was fair to bring up Auburn's OOC last season.

I can't see why if the Cougars will go to Columbus, South Bend, Knoxville and Lincoln, they would be afraid to go to Auburn. Personally, I would love for the Cougs to play Auburn. I don't care if we get beat. And while we were down last year, the future should be better and we DO have recent victories over USC and Texas, so I wouldn't assume it would be a cakewalk. As I have to remind Pac-10 fans of other schools, Washington State was a Top Ten team 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Washington State is in the middle of nowhere and it is very difficult for the Cougars to get national exposure. Even when Washington State loses to a high-profile team like Ohio State, or Auburn, it invariably works in our favor. After to losing to Ohio State in 2002, the Cougars rose to #3 in the BCS, before losing to Washington in the Apple Cup.

I think the Pac-10 has a pretty good record of playing good OOC foes. I was looking over the OOC schools the Pac-10 plays this season and they include Oklahoma, LSU, Purdue, Louisville, Boise State and Utah - all Top Twenty Five teams according to the Sporting News. Also, three Pac-10 teams play Notre Dame this season. ...By the way, do you have a return date with USC?

Anyway, Auburn, it seems we have something in common. I am sure I will hear about WSU's "joke" OOC often this season. I wish it was different, but for reasons you have stated, it is extremely difficult for the Cougars to have quality teams play us on anything close to even terms.

Maybe Tuberville can reschedule the game he backed out of with Florida State weeks after he was hired. War Damn Chicken!

from msnbc

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7019705/

The e-mails came pouring in from the Plains the day after Southern California disposed of Oklahoma and secured the national title. Auburn was robbed. Auburn would've given the Trojans a better game. Auburn this, Auburn that. Auburn, Auburn, Auburn.

At this point, I'll introduce Pat Hill. You know him as Fresno State's brash and bold coach, a guy who has built a program from the scrap heap and will play anyone, any time, any place to gain respect.

So I placed a call to Hill last week and told him Auburn just added a home game against Division I-AA Western Kentucky to complete its 2005 schedule. And before I could ask the question, he gave the answer.

"We called them," Hill interrupted. "We wanted to play them. I guess their schedule was already filled."

No, it wasn't. Fresno officials called before Auburn added Western Kentucky, and Hill is speaking with a politically correct tone because, well, he'd love a shot at Auburn somewhere down the road. Yeah, good luck with that. Auburn has bigger fish to flop.

Like The Citadel. Or Western Kentucky. Or big, bad Ball State.

This is why Auburn wasn't one of two teams playing in the Orange Bowl national title game last season, why the Tigers were stuck in the Sugar Bowl politicking for respect. Respect? Play someone with a pulse outside your conference, then we'll talk.

Wait, I take that back. Aubie played USC in the 2002 and '03 seasons and lost by a combined 47-17. The Tigers also played Georgia Tech in 2003 and lost 17-3. Hence, the reason for last year's brutal nonconference slate of Louisiana-Monroe, The Citadel and Louisiana Tech. And the reason the Tigers weren't playing USC in the Orange Bowl.

Look, Auburn shouldn't have to apologize for its schedule; it plays in the SEC, the toughest conference in college football. But like it or not, teams must prove themselves outside of their conferences to earn style points. It's as much a beauty pageant as it is a demolition derby.

Auburn was put in this predicament after Southern Miss bailed out of a game because of conflicts with the new Conference USA schedule. But here's the hitch: Southern Miss informed Auburn last September. University officials knew for five months -- through a magical unbeaten season, through the controversy of not being able to play for the national title because of a pathetic nonconference schedule -- that they needed a nonconference game for 2005, yet they chose to continue down the same path.

A university spokeswoman says Auburn needs seven home games per season to make budget. Fresno State didn't want a game in return -- "We usually play on the road; we know that," Hill says -- but Auburn steered clear of a team that is 10-8 against BCS teams since 2000.

Fresno State eventually signed up to play at two-time defending national champ USC -- which also will play nonconference games at Hawaii, against Arkansas and at Notre Dame. Notice the lack of cupcake directional schools.

Albert Einstein once defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Change was staring Auburn in the face not so long ago. And the choice was Western Kentucky.

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Auburn has asked out of football games with Clemson scheduled for 2006 and 2007, officials from both schools say.

Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips says Auburn must find the team an acceptable replacement opponent or pay a $250,000 buyout.

Auburn athletic director David Housel says there was no disrespect meant to Clemson, only financial considerations. He says the school needs seven home games a year to pay for a $30 million stadium renovation. Canceling the games with Clemson will let them do that, Housel said.

"We're working with Terry Don and Clemson to try and help everybody find suitable opponents," Housel said.

Tuberville said the new opponent probably would not be a big-name team.

"Before you play Georgia and Alabama, do you want to go play at Michigan? I don't," he said. "You have to figure out what you can do that is best for your team."

so what Big 10 AD's did he call since he didn't want to call Michigan?

Coog LJ - What do you think of Doba?

Admitedly I dont know much about him, but I'm not sure he can fill Price's shoes. You guys have taken a step backward with under Doba since Price left. I think you need a heck of a recruiter and personality to get the kids from out of the area to get to the remote campus and he was (is) an offensive genius to boot. The team was rolling under Price in his last few years, it seems to be faltering under Doba. Just interested in what you think about him. Am I way off base?

arrow - With both OSU and Iowa having the top two defenses in the conference I seriously doubt it will be a blow-out either way. OSU' s defense has a chance to be better than the '02 team if possible but both teams will stuggle early with the offense. Should be a great game regardless...

WSU

The biggest hurdle to scheduling a home and home with anybody is the size of Martin Stadium. It is simply too small. It seats what, 35,000 to 40,000 and still doesn't sell out every game.

Didn't Fresno State get beat by LA Tech last season??? 28-21 sound familiar? And then the next week Auburn beat La Tech by a modest 52-7? So what difference does it make? We beat La Tech. We would've beaten Fresno as well.

BobbyBlueChip, I don't know who you cheer for, or how bad Auburn beat them last year, or if you're just one of those guys out there who likes to stir s#@t up, but the only thing you said there that made any sense was that Auburn shouldn't have to defend their OOC schedule because we play in the SEC. End of story.

Auburn does have to schedule 7 home games to pay off stadium renovations, so you try and slant it like Auburn is scared to play Clemson? Nice try.

Coug LJ, what did I say about WSU's OOC schedule? I don't remember putting it down?

Auburn won its OOC games 31-0, 33-3, 52-7. Not to mention winning its SEC games by an average of 19 points. So it really didn't matter who else we could've played, they would've lost!!!

Can we please move on to next season? Thanks in advance.

Not trying to start anything - I was merely questioning the validity of Tuberville's comments of calling every Big 10 school when he was quoted as saying he didn't want to play Michigan.

I'm also questioning the validity of the "Auburn can't schedule quality opponents because no one wants to play them" mantra when Fresno wanted to play them - at Jordan-Hare and they were passed over for the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky.

They really lose all right to bitch when the computers lock them out of a championship game.

Auburn, I may have you mistaken with someone else who made a remark about Washington State's OOC schedule. Sorry to bring up your OOC schedule in 2004, of which I am sure you have heard enough. As you say, let's move forward.

flapjack, Bill Doba got off to a great start with a 2nd place finish in the Pac-10 and a Holiday Bowl win over Texas. The Cougs were a pre-season pick for 7th in the Pac-10 and Bill Doba ended up winning the Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 2003.

Last season, things went worse than expected, though there was a serious depletion of starters from the previous season. The Defense had to replace 9 starters. We also had a new QB, RB, WR's, three OL and kicker. Then, the injuries hit.

Like most fans, Washington State fans got spoiled by success and began to think winning was expected. Last year brought us down to earth. It also brought an appreciation for Mike Price - though, many are still bitter about his awkward departure to Alabama. Price also had a less than stellar record against Washington. I am surprised by how many Cougs hold bitter feelings toward Mike Price, but it's starting to thaw. As I tell them, there is no way in hell a Rose Bowl was supposed to happen in Pullman and Mike Price got us there twice in five years. It hadn't happen in almost seventy years before then.

Bill Doba has a quiet charisma and the fans feel very warmly toward him. He and his staff have recruited fine and the team should be on the rise for the next two or three years. Most of the key players on the team are young and will return for 2006 and 2007. However, if the Cougs struggle, there will be rumbling, especially if Mike Price continues to have success in El Paso.

Mike Price does a lot of great things as a coach. He has an infectious enthusiasm and knows how to rally a team together. I heard the Alabama players got very close to him in a short period of time. Make no mistake, he did some amazing things in Pullman. His play-calling could be questionable at times, but no coach is perfect. He won a number of national coaching awards while at Washington State and probably will win a few more in El Paso. As you noted, he likes a wide-open offense that can points on the board.

Nastics, the Cougs can also play an OOC game in Seahawk Stadium in Seattle, that seats over 60, 000. That is where I think the big OOC games will be played. Martin Stadium looks like an overgrown high school stadium, but they are sprucing it up. It is pretty much sold out these days. That said, it is a serious step down from most major D-1 programs.

What makes being a Cougar fan so much fun is that success is unexpected and hard to explain. We are underdogs in the truest sense of the word. Cougar teams are known for playing with a lot of heart and fight and, lately, for having unexpected success. The Sporting News has us picked for 7th in the Pac-10 in 2005, but I will be surprised if we don't do quite a bit better than that.

But, yeah, this is an important year for Bill Doba and the Cougs. We don't want to return to the bad old days. It is no fun to be a Pac-10 punching bag. And while WSU appears to be at a disadvantage to most teams in the Pac-10, the Cougs have found a formula to be successful. Pullman is a selling point. It's not for everyone, but they've got something happening there that draws a fair amount of kids. It also helps that everyone gets 85 scholarships.

His surprise teams are not teams he thinks will go undefeated but will do better than the polls or experts think they will do--big turnaround years and shold make some noise in their confernces and bowls. The five non BCS teams he states are longshots that could surprise and according to his power ratings could go undefeated.

Top 10 jokes from all those lists:

1. Alabama going undefeated (only if LSU, Auburn, Tenn, and Florida get rained out)
2. Penn State most improved #3 (how could they get any worse???)
3. Cal going undefeated (they will have to play someone from a much stronger conference in their bowl game, not to mention USC will destroy them)
4. Florida State going undefeated (must have printed that before Wyatt dropped acid at the Dave Matthews concert and decided to take on the cops)
5. Oregon going undefeated (see above Cal)
6. Arkansas most improved (Matt Jones was their entire team for the past 2 seasons, he's gone now, how will they improve?)
7. Nebraska only at #15 (they HAVE to be better, the whole state will commit suicide if they keep losing)
8. LSU and Louisville are surprise teams (will anyone really be shocked if either of these teams makes a run at undefeated season?)
9. Alabama AGAIN (really, c'mon guys, this same team went 6-6 last year with a schedule that was softer than a twinkie. 13-0 is only gonna happen if they schedule Utah St. 13 times)
10. UTEP going to a BCS bowl (they will not let Mike Price near a venue that offers adult entertainment!!! It would be a PR nightmare for the BCS)

:) :) :) :) :) :)

LOL, Your team would have gone 6-6 at best if your #1 & #2 QB's got hurt. Your #1 and #2 tailbacks got hurt.. Let me just put it this way. If Spencer Pennington was the QB for any team in football they would be fortunate to win a game. Enjoy it while you can because it is almost over for you.. I love it!! :mj07:
