HOUSTON (Pettitte) +105 over SAN DIEGO (Peavy)

As things stand now, the Astros are better than their 40-42 record

indicates while the Padres--playing in MLB's weakest division--are

worse than their divsion-leading 45-39 mark suggests. Houston

has won nine of 12 (+$605). They have held the Pads to just three

runs through the fist two games of this series. Andy Pettitte has

produced all season and he has turned it up a notch since June

began. During that time, he has won four of six starts, allowing

two earned runs or less in all but one game (6/14 @ BAL), with

a K:BB ratio of 34:4. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that

the Padres were considering calling up Justin Germano from

AAA if Peavy could not pitch today due to a sore throat. We'll

assume that Peavy will pitch but he obviously was not at

full strength leading up to today if his start was ever in question.

In that case, Pettitte is getting great value at home. San Diego

is 3-7, -$345 versus southpaws on the road

Two things: Kevin Correia faced off against Jake Peavy and held his own in his first start of the season, allowing two runs in five innings; and, Luke Hudson flat-out sucks!
Correia did not figure into the decision, but the Giants did win the game by breaking an eighth-inning tie to top the Friars and Peavy in that start, so I like the confidence he should have right now.
And, Hudson was hit hard for the second straight start last Friday, as the Astros touched him up for six runs in two innings. And that came just one start after not making it through the third inning after yielding seven runs to the Tribe. His ERA is above 10, and over 12 on the road.

BOS is 8-2 in Clement's last 10 starts.?Red Sox are 8-1 in their last nine road games.
