Man who confessed on radio in court

July 19, 2005

BY NATASHA KORECKI Federal Courts Reporter

A Dolton man who called a radio station to confess to a bank robbery fessed up again Monday -- this time in federal court.

Randy "D" Washington, 24, said he and others stole $81,000 from TCF Bank at 3220 S. Chicago Road in Chicago Heights last year.

But the first time he publicly confessed was on a popular confessions show that aired on WKSC-FM (103.5) last fall.

He didn't use his real name, but Washington bragged on the radio about how it was an inside job, and gave specific details including how he unloaded his cut of the loot on Michigan Avenue shopping.

Washington's phone call helped crack the then-five-month-old case -- there were no other leads at the time, authorities said.

An FBI agent and a bank employee separately heard the broadcast. The radio show kept a tape of the call, and the FBI traced it to Washington's cell phone.

In a plea deal with the feds, Washington faces 47 months in prison when he's sentenced in October.
