Well, last night at work, I was robbed. My passenger glass was broken out, my car was rifled through, and they broke out my dash and relieved me of my stereo. My cell phone was not where I left it, but on closer inspection, I found it in the back floorboard. I took my cell phone in after I talked to the police officer and didn't think much more about it and finished my shift. When I was leaving, I turned my cell phone on and I pushed the send button which shows numbers dialed. Guess what... The thief used my cell phone!! It's a local cell company prefix. I called the police and left a voice mail for the responding officer. I doubt the police will put too much time into this since my total damages will be less than 500 bucks, but I sure would like to know who owned that number that was called. Seems like a good lead to me. Any ideas? Thanks.

PS The police here do not fingerprint this kind of crime, so that wasn't/won't be done. I think that only happens for capital crimes or maybe felonies? Also, a friend called the number and put 3 numbers before he dialed (he said that way the number doesn't show on caller id???) but it just said it was disconnected/no longer in service. ALso, I'm pretty sure this was random as the police officer said there had been a rash of these crimes in the area, but they usually did not break out windows to gain access.

the only way three numbers being dialed won't count as the area code is if those three *buttons* are *(star)69 , that is how you block your number from the recipient. the number you were trying to call may not have been disconnected..... go gettem 6-5

Yes, there IS a reverse phone directory. I can't remember the exact name....maybe try switchboard.com or something like that....

I hope you track down the mofo's. They aren't Mensa material, thats for sure.....lol

oh, and i'm guessing if they *used* your cell phone and didn't take it, they probably just dialed a random number to throw you off the track anyway :(

just did the IA test, and *69 was call return, so likely to be what Agent said for blocking calls. since i'm fairly sure that the *66 is for redialing a busy number.

I've used www.anywho.com several times for reverse lookups with semi-strong results. However, celll numbers generally aren't listed. At least in my experience.

The number called was a cell number for sure, so no reverse lookups have worked. I guess the police will have to use their resources to do it.

sad thing is the stereo was nice, but no big money item. It was a Blaupunkt (not sure on that spelling), and it was plenty nice for me, but I'm not sure if it was really worth their while to steal. I don't even know if it had a faceplate. Heck, I bought it from a pawn shop myself. :cursin:
