I'm not saying it's a complete disaster. I say more troops and resources and let's complete the mission. I will not live in Fantasyland and tell the country that the insurgency is all but finished when the scoreboard says otherwise.

I don't want to dwell on the mistakes or misinformation or whatever it was that got us there. I'll actually agree with you Manson that there is an element of sour grapes, told you so, whining in going on and on about that. What's important is what to do from this point forward. Putting lipstick on a pig, leaving, and calling it a smashing success is denial.

I'm ready for some real sacrifices. I believe that's what we need to prepare for in coming years. We should get used to the idea of conservation, service, and fiscal responsibility. Reality will get us sooner or later.

Very hard to argue with that. I totally agree. I do however remember the president saying the war on terror will take years.

You liberals are like the whiny kid in the back seat...."are we there yet? are we there yet?"......here's a cookie now shut the hell up.

Yeah, years. Actually, the 'War on Terror' will never end. That's just the way it is. The question is how we approach it. Invading countries that had little or nothing to do with terror, and turning them into a terrorist playground, is a bad place to start.

There are about 1.2 billion muslims. Muslim leaders themselves estimate that about 1% are fanatics. So that's 12 million and the number is growing. There is no way to ever have a formal end to the conflict. There will be bombings, hijacked planes etc until the end of time. That's what makes this Iraqi war so infuriating. All these resources being poured into that nonsense while Bush assures Fox that he'll do his bet to get Congress to loosen up immigration laws. Loosen them up? Is that even possible?

Let alone the fact that we've done little to protect our nuclear facilities, ports, etc. But we have a billion dollars a week to spend on Iraq?

Not enough Americans have a grasp of these kind of numbers. They think we can walk in and kick anyone's ass. Mathematics are a hard thing to get around - especially when dealing with dropping enlistment figures. ...and no, we can't just nuke everyone - that would end our society as we know it. Unfortunately, we have a poresident who has shown over and over again that he's never been good with math.

How man Americans even realize that the largest Muslim population is in Indonesia? How many even know where Indonesia is? We can only speculate how many radicals will come from there someday. They've already shown the ability and ruthlessness in Bali.

The war on terror has only begun. None of us will see it end. We really need to sit Bush down and make him watch re-runs of "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?", so he can learn the globe and avoid such ridiculous strategy moves like Iraq again.

You know, Saul, your ability to use obscure pop-culture references in your arguments really is unparalleled.

Agree completely on your comments, as well. It's basically an unsolvable problem. We can try to contain it, but terrorism will never, ever end.

As long as we live in a free society, there will be people that hate us. It's simply the way things are, fair or not. And as long as even a tiny percentage of those people are easily influenced people being spoon-fed a bunch of religious bullshit about how it's the "will of Allah" to kill innocent people, things like what happened in London today will continue to occur.
