Cleveland Indians at Kansas City Royals, Tuesday, August 9, 2005 8:10 P.M. EST EST

Royals have lost 10 straight but seven came on the road and the last three at home vs. the hottest team on the planet, Oakland. K.C. has beaten Cleveland 26-of-47 the past three seasons and is 11-10 here at home. CLEVELAND is 19-26 against the money line with a hot bullpen whose WHIP is under 1.000 the last 5 games this season 19-27 against the money line against division opponents and 109-117 against the money line after having won 6 or 7 of their last 8 games since 1997.

Play on: Kansas City

Nick Patrick had a horrible last week is on a 6-1 last 7 run

Houston +102 (best home team in baseball a dog?)

Houston Under 8 (Patterson never gets any run support, Houston will struggle to score too but win 4-2)

Texas +175 (Play this to win 1 unit not risk 1 unit...This game is a toss up...I like getting 175 in a toss up)

Yanks Under 10 (Contreras is 14-4 Under this year in his starts just to name 1 of many reasons I like it)

Minny Under 8.5 (Neither team is scoring right now Pitchers are 15-4 Under on the season. Expect a total of 6 or 7 tonight)

Pittsburgh (+110) at COLORADO
By Justin Palmer, Featured Handicapper

For Tuesday take the Bucos in Coors.

Colorado has been playing a ton better of late but they are still the Rockies. Clint Hurdle's squad is making very positive strides but I will almost always take money back from the Ryan Shealy and JD Closser's of the world. Plus we have a guy in Dave WIlliams who really is a solid and underachieving southpaw. When this guy is on he can dominate.

Williams is up against the righty Jose Acevedo. Acevedo truly is not a major leaguer. He is a guy that should count his lucky stars that there are as many teams in the game as there are. I will give Acevedo his due for a half of a good season with the Reds a few years ago.

Jason Bay and company are still the better team. They just pounded the Rockies last week at PNC and to get money back with them today is more then fine with me.

A value play all the way on the Padres as huge home underdogs tonight.

I sort of understand where the linesmaker is coming from in this game, considering the pitching matchup of Pedro Martinez vs. Chan Ho Park. However, the Padres have dug themselves out of a deep hole in the last week, winning five of their last six games. Granted, the one loss came in Park's San Diego debut. But I think the former Dodger is actually going to have success in cavernous Petco Park, because the flyballs that flew out of the park when he was pitching in Texas are going to be routine outs in Petco. Park had good success against the Mets in his career with the Dodgers, giving up three earned runs or fewer in all five starts.

As for Pedro, the guy has simply dominated the Friars in two career starts, pitching eight innings of two-hit shutout ball in both of them, including a 1-0 victory in Boston last summer. However, he certainly hasn't been perfect of late, as evidenced by his 4.09 ERA in his last three starts. Tired arm, perhaps? Hey, it's not like Pedro's never exhibited those symptoms in his career. Regardless, the Mets have lost his last two starts as $2.60 and $1.85 favorites, and they're just 5-5 in the last 10 games in which Martinez has toed the rubber, including 2-3 on the road.

I'll admit this looks like a tough one to pull out, but to get the Padres at home at a big plus-price, it's worth the chance. Play San Diego.

Philadelphia (+120) at LOS ANGELES

Make-or-break road swing for the Phillies who are clinging to a thin reed in the standings these days. The Phils need to reel off a 5 game winning streak, and there is a good chance the underdog will cash tonight, as Robinson Tejeda has been a find for Charlie Manuel's team.

Tejeda sports a slim 2.09 ERA for the season, and has allowed only 3 runs to score over his last 17 innings of work. Brad Penny opposes and while he has been tough to score on, the Dodgers righty just gets no run support. Penny has allowed 10 runs over his last 18 innings, and if the Phils can chase him from the game then you can assume they will batter a beleagured Dodgers' pen.

Philly is 11-5 overall versus Los Angeles since the 2003 season, look for them to make it 12-5 after Tejeda shuts them down tonight.

Play the Fightin' Phils at Chavez Ravine this evening.

White Sox at YANKEES (-165)
By Mike Anthony, Featured Handicapper

Who would have thought that Shawn Chacon would be counted on to anchor a depleted Yankees' pitching staff? Chacon has made a pair of starts for New York, going a solid 12 innings while allowing just 2 earned runs to score. His offense and bullpen have let him down, as he has yet to pick up a decision in a pinstripe uniform. Look for him to garner the win tonight though, as Jose Contreras returns to his old haunt.

Contreras never got it going in New York, and hasn't really got it going in Chicago, as the Sox hurler is no better than .500 on a team that sports 72 wins. I expect Contreras to fall behind via a few Yankees' longballs, and for the Sox to have to play catch up and fall once again tonight.

I will lay the wood with the Yanks, as Chacon earns his first Yankees' win of the season.

White Sox at NY YANKEES (-165)
By Rob House, Featured Handicapper

Your free play for Tuesday is Under the posted total in the White Sox-Yankees game.

Last night's game saw 5 runs get scored and I honestly can't expect anything more tonight. The White Sox have stayed under in six straight games, scoring a total of 19 runs in the process. And, let's remember that 5 of those games were played at home against the Seattle and Toronto, two teams with awful pitching staffs.

Shawn Chacon has pitched well in his two starts for the Yankees and over his last 10 starts with Colorado and New York combined, 7 have stayed under. And the under is 4-1 in the Yankees last 5 overall.

Also, Jose Contreras is pitching for the Chisox tonight and this man was all but run out of New York. You know he wants to come back and give a great performance tonight.

Both teams have struggled to hit the ball as of late, look for that trend to continue tonight. Play the Under.

Chicago White Sox @ New York Yankees u10.0
Tue Aug 9 '05 7:05p

Contreras the Pale Hose starter tonight against the Yankees has allowed just 37 hits in 52 1/3 innings of road work this season and is 6-3 lifetime at the Bronx Zoo with a 3.78 ERA spanning 69 innings . The Yankees will counter with Shawn Chacon who will make his 3 rd start since being traded from Colorado. The righty hurler has garnered a stingy 1.50 ERA in 12 innings helping his team to a 2-0 record in those outings. Final notes: The White Sox have gone UNDER in 6 straight contests. The Yankees have followed suit in 4 of their L/5 overall. Bottom line: Look for these two capable throwers to help keep this contest on the low side of the total.
