To Place @ several books
Darren Clarke 10/1
Maybe rest has suited him well--wife appears to be much better.

72 holes
D Clarke -110 over Love
Mayfair -115 over Howell

Clarke and Mayfair have 1 cut and a wd between em --Love and Howell 12 cuts--also Love and Howell both cut in 2 of 3 majors.

Been reading all these articles on length being so important here but 93 open results sure contradicts that with some of shortest hitters back then on leader board--had a littlle rain yesterday and more projected so could play a part with 200 yards added--

Only Woods and Singh have better records in the majors this year than Mark Hensby, and he looked very relaxed in his win in Scandinavia two weeks ago. Has finished second and seventh in this event and currently on top form - widely available at 66/1

I bet Hensby at 125-1 before his win in Europe (also posted in WR's early PGA thread). Obviously, that number is not close to widely available so I guess it doesn't count as an official play.

Here is one that I just can't pass up:
Richard S. Johnson 500-1 e.w. at Sportingbet
--I'll detail my reasoning later as I am little short for time right now.

Apollo Just cut and paste play from WR's early thread--we have counted them in past I believe as long as they were posted here.
We'll see Stans take when he returns.

I played Mark Hensby 125-1 e.w. @ Sportingbet. Also available at other spots. I am afraid if he does win this week, the price won't be around in two weeks.

If it cashes, I will be thrilled. If if counts as an official play, all the better. I understand if it doesn't. It is not even close to widely available now, but I would still play him at 66-1.

a couple more 72 holes
F Jacobson -110 over Faxon @ SB
Couples -115 over OHern @ Oly

Basically fades against 2 players short of tooth with suspect long iron play.

Apollo-Oly has some top tens listed.

I'll be very glad to lose this wager IF it means Phil is in contention late on Sunday, but I would hedge it at 5dimes if I really thought that was going to happen (and I didn't play it too large at Bet365, because I was thinking they might let me have it).

Paul McGinley: "Whistling Straits last year was a fast running golf course . . . This place . . . we play a lot of courses like this, particularly in America. They've made the same old mistake, gone for length instead of subtlety. Length, length, length, that's not what the game is about and still they're going to have good scoring here this week because the greens are soft . . . A fellow blocks a drive and it pitches two yards from the edge of the fairway and it stops dead. When the fairways are firm, he'll be coming out of the rough and trying to control a shot to a rock hard green. It ain't going to happen. This week, the guys will be able to power it out of the rough and stop it on the soft greens . . . I would say this is an old style golf course that doesn't have particularly modern drainage on it. So the greens remain soft, whereas at Augusta they have that underground system that dries out the greens pretty quickly."

(Four days of a major championship is the sport's ultimate grind - "How're you doing, big fella?")

"Because of the rain that washed out Thursday's first round, 63 players . . . plodded their way through 36 holes over the hilly terrain at Castle Pines Golf Club.

In all, the players walked more than 16,000 yards - nearly 9 miles - went through an aquifer of water and ate an orchard worth of apples, bananas, oranges and anything else they could stuff in their bags . . .

Playing two rounds in one day is not unheard of on the PGA Tour. U.S. Open qualifying rounds are 36 holes, and the WGC-Match Play Championship in February features a 36-hole finale and two rounds in one day.

Castle Pines, with its steep roller- coaster climbs, is a different animal.

The 6,300-foot elevation can cause headaches, shortness of breath, dehydration, perhaps even hallucinations.

"I'm out of breath just talking to you right now," said 2002 International champion Rich Beem, one of several players who changed shoes, pants, shirts and hats between rounds.

"It's not just the hills. You're out of breath. You go up the hill and you're exhausted. It's just unbelievable. It makes for a long day. I'm toast."

Beem, 34, was in better shape than his 44-year-old playing partner, Steve Lowery, who staggered into the clubhouse after a bogey on his 36th hole of the day.

"I asked Steve on No. 9, 'How're you doing, big fella?' He said, 'I'm dragging, boys,' " Beem said. "He fought hard to the end, but he just got tired."

PGA Outrights

PGA Outrights

(Total stake on each play 2 points)

Retief Goosen 18-1 e.w. @ Golfing Gods
--Slightly concerned about him playing 4 rounds at the International last weekend. But his game appears in top form. The course appears to be a hybrid US Open/PGA set up, so I think that has to favor him (and Tiger and Vijay; but I'll try to beat them rather than play them).

Mark Hensby 125-1 e.w. @ Sportingbet
--As stated earlier, I played this two weeks ago. A lot has been said about his majors play this year. I'll add one piece that I think shows he is becoming a player who elevates his game for the big ones: He quietly finished T-4 last year at the Tour Championship.

Richard S. Johnson 500-1 e.w. @ Sportingbet
--What an overlay if I ever saw one. I checked this morning and it was adjusted to 250-1. At 500-1, he is being priced like a club pro qualifer. The reality is that his form is phenomenal right now. Statistically, he is near the top in many of the key categories (he finally has enough rounds played to qualify). But this is only his second major, and there is no telling how he'll play under pressure if he does get himself in any type of position on Sunday (he has won two tourneys as a pro though none in the U.S.). But his game is suited for majors -- he hits the ball straight, hits the green in regulation and can putt -- so I think he will make a nice showing this week.

Darren Clarke 55-1 to win, 10-1 to place @ 5dimes
--A model of consistency. He's finished in the Top 20 in 7 of 8 PGA events this year (including the Open) and has played just as well in European events. I like the fact that his wife is feeling good as I am sure that will put him in a good frame of mind to finally go out and win his first major.

DTB,

Funny that you post that. David Pelz, short game guru (I should buck up and have him help me ... LOL), was on Golf Channel last night demonstrating how these greens will probably get tricky come Thursday.

The players have been practicing with the greens rolling at about a 9 or 9.5 because they hadn't cut them (we are really dry this year in the east and they didn't want to lose them). But he said they'll cut them (they may have done so yesterday morning) so they'll be rolling to at least an 11 or 11.5 for the first round and possibly faster on the weekend. The rain could change all of this, of course.

Very nice stat to post. Thanks.

They have several top 10's up @ wagerweb now also Apollo.
a prop there I like and will list later tonight when they put up the other props score under 275.5 -140--a chunk to bite off but they had their way with this course in 93 in firm conditions and don't see any problem going under this # with soft conditions may even get LC&P if possible storms hit.

LIA Nice AND smart of 365 to do that. Have found with several if you don't try and bust them and stay at modest wager they will do that. Oly made mistake @ Riviara and had Perry @ 40/1 win and same odds to place. They let my wager stand and had he not bogied final hole (chunked it in greenside trap) he would have cashed.Had Toms to place same tourney and was in 3rd and in last group following Perrys 2some and he got in almost exact spot in trap as Perry and skulled it in the grandstands for double and 6th place finish--not a good hole for me--by the way nice cash on Goose last week.

Props

Props

John Daly to Make the cut -123 @ Pinnacle
--This line is being influenced by Daly's overall poor play in PGA Championships. But he did make the cut here in 1993 (actually finished 33rd) and obviously has the length to handle the longer par 4s. A lot is being made of the two par 5s, especially 17, but I don't think longer hitters will have any special edge on them.

Darren Clarke to finish in the Top 20 +131 @ Pinnacle
--Already have an outright play on him, but his record this year completely justifies this play. My biggest regret of the British Open was not making a wager on a similar prop.

I am probably passing on matchups again because I like to lean on course form a lot to help me and we really don't have any to go on here. My record in tournaments where they don't play the same course every year is much worse than same-course tournaments. I will venture into the three-ball market and hope to have my plays posted by early tonight.

DTB, I agree on the scoring.

I played the under 275.5 (@ Wager Web) a little earlier. I used 270 as my score in the Wager Web contest. I was glad I waited and didn't play the 274.5s that were posted elsewhere. I am still searching through the Top 10 market, but may post two or three tonight.
