- - I placed the wager, then called Bet365 to advise them of the obvious error. The line was immediately corrected, BUT they told me I could still keep my wager. I'll be very glad to lose this wager IF it means Phil is in contention late on Sunday, but I would hedge it at 5dimes if I really thought that was going to happen (and I didn't play it too large at Bet365, because I was thinking they might let me have it).

Paul McGinley: "Whistling Straits last year was a fast running golf course . . . This place . . . we play a lot of courses like this, particularly in America. They've made the same old mistake, gone for length instead of subtlety. Length, length, length, that's not what the game is about and still they're going to have good scoring here this week because the greens are soft . . . A fellow blocks a drive and it pitches two yards from the edge of the fairway and it stops dead. When the fairways are firm, he'll be coming out of the rough and trying to control a shot to a rock hard green. It ain't going to happen. This week, the guys will be able to power it out of the rough and stop it on the soft greens . . . I would say this is an old style golf course that doesn't have particularly modern drainage on it. So the greens remain soft, whereas at Augusta they have that underground system that dries out the greens pretty quickly."

(Four days of a major championship is the sport's ultimate grind - "How're you doing, big fella?")
"Because of the rain that washed out Thursday's first round, 63 players . . . plodded their way through 36 holes over the hilly terrain at Castle Pines Golf Club.
In all, the players walked more than 16,000 yards - nearly 9 miles - went through an aquifer of water and ate an orchard worth of apples, bananas, oranges and anything else they could stuff in their bags . . .
Playing two rounds in one day is not unheard of on the PGA Tour. U.S. Open qualifying rounds are 36 holes, and the WGC-Match Play Championship in February features a 36-hole finale and two rounds in one day.
Castle Pines, with its steep roller- coaster climbs, is a different animal.
The 6,300-foot elevation can cause headaches, shortness of breath, dehydration, perhaps even hallucinations.
"I'm out of breath just talking to you right now," said 2002 International champion Rich Beem, one of several players who changed shoes, pants, shirts and hats between rounds.
"It's not just the hills. You're out of breath. You go up the hill and you're exhausted. It's just unbelievable. It makes for a long day. I'm toast."
Beem, 34, was in better shape than his 44-year-old playing partner, Steve Lowery, who staggered into the clubhouse after a bogey on his 36th hole of the day.
"I asked Steve on No. 9, 'How're you doing, big fella?' He said, 'I'm dragging, boys,' " Beem said. "He fought hard to the end, but he just got tired."
