So Cal
Place, Austin Texas

Subject, College Tuition

Solution, Is there One?

Now this young man enrolled in a Texas College but instead of getting an "In State" tuition charge he was charged FIVE TIMES the amount for an OUT of State tuition. This fellow is a citizen of the State and is Registered to Vote and has a Texas Drivers License. The College TURNED him down for In State fees due to the fact he had been out of the State for over Two Years. He questioned the rule to no avail. He had been out of State after serving TWO TOURS of duty in Iraq.

Many States ALLOW lower tuition for ILLEGAL ALIENS. But not for this guy.

ferd,

That's EXACTLY what my daughter is going through right now here in Ohio. She recently got out of the army and they're wanting to charge her out of state tuition. Fortunately she DIDN'T have to go to Iraq. Total BS!

WTF gardenweasel. Why are you turning this into partisan BS? I think we know who runs Texas. I'm pretty sure the ACLU isn't allowed across the state border. No sense in dragging them into the beurocratic hell that I'm sure Dubya helped create.

my question to you smurph is....why wouldn`t the aclu get involved on behalf of this patriotic young man?.....

they are involved in removing crosses from hillsides and state seals...

they are involved as advocates for terrorists at abu gharaib....

it is called "THE AMERICAN" ciivil liberties union....isn`t it?

why not a young american man....who serves in our country`s military honorably... whose rights have obviously been abused due to a flaw in the system....

you support the troops.....right?...or is that just lip service?

and why is my asking why the aclu doesn`t champion the young man`s cause partisan?

aren`t his rights as worthy a cause as those of the terrorists?

why so defensive regarding the aclu?....aren`t they there for us all?....

or,do they have an agenda?

Well got the lowdown few minutes ago on fox when they interviewed soilder in question. You have to remember as with Cindy chick the liberal media always seems to leave out relative info that doesn't suit their agenda.

When asked by Fox why instate was turned down he said he lived in Louisiana a year and half before enlisting and enlisted in that state and that is what caused problem.

If you folks would watch Fox and quit getting half truths from liberal news it sure would save tons of updates and corrections :)

The guy had a out of state drivers license. It's being resolved no big deal to start with for national news. It's like the gal missing in Aruba. Every night she still missing. But they try and make 30 minutes hell a hour of news about it. It deserves about the same as any news story this old 5 minutes. Some networks if they don't have politics to blow about over and over like Fox. Just keep repeating old stories.

Fact is Fox thought it was ludicrous not to give him instate tuition--all they did was present BOTH sides ;)

update from fox--

State officials have granted a Texas Marine in-state tuition at Austin Community College (search), after first denying the Iraq war veteran's request because they say he volunteered for duty in a neighboring state.

Last night we told you that Carl Basham would have been forced to pay an extra $2000 a semester ? even though he was registered to vote in Texas and was an official resident of Austin. In reversing the state's earlier ruling, Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, himself a retired military man, said, "it's been a pretty good day to help one Marine."

Matt you won't find ACLU helping military

There to wrapped up in aiding anything against religion--child porn-gays and terrorist.

Right now your boys are off to CA prisons to back the Muslim prisonors who may have been linked to LA airport plot.
