Religion - the worst blight on mankind. We were better off when the Soviet Union had their grip on.

Freeze, Christians have slaughtered more people in the name of their religion than ANYONE.

No difference between the philosophy of Christians politicians "only answering to God" and Taliban politicians "only answering to Allah".

None at all. This type of attitude WILL destroy democracy. But you can also be sure it won't succeed in THIS country.

Ocelot-- you really are an angry man. What has happened to you in your past that has brought you to this point. The major point here is that the author of this article is the only one stating the Christian politicians answer ONLY to God.

you seriously lose crecibility with every post.

smurphy-- I didn't mean to offend you. It was my way of saying that I absolutely do not feel that Bush or Cheney lead this country with Christian values as their lead. I apologize about my joke not coming off right.

Give me a planet where each individual lives within the boundaries of his own rights and determines his actions based on the premise of not harming someone else or someone else's property, and I'll be living in a whole lot more peaceful world than a planet with a bunch of delusional people basing thier actions merely from religion and that "God told me to do it."

I agree with a lot of what you said, Marco, but this statement doesn't make much sense to me. The key here is that there would always be a section of the population that would not abide by the "based on the premise of not harming someone else or someone else's property". Hell, we have laws about this stuff now, and people still don't believe in it.

I think if you want anarchy as your ruling force, you should find a place in the world that allows it. There are plenty of communities in this country where that is the ruling body. I'm sure you would have a ton of fun there.

Man, I thought is that seculars are the worst influence on civilization. Along with that the loss of morals and traditions as a way of destroying the existing western culture and taking over with the radical left elitist movement which brainwashes children, fallen false ideologues and the ignorant, weak and bored into adopting any idea that goes against the common grain of the current social establishment. Of course, while not giving a hoot about any one individual whom they represent nor accepting any common sense idea or opinion contrary to their own.
But, hey, I may be wrong. I mean the Russkies were really cool and shit. Hey, a whore (of your pesonal gender preference) for a roll of toilet paper; an orgy in exchange for a pair of Levi's. Man, those were the days!!! :sadwave:

dawg, you say Bush and Cheney don't lead by Christian values. What exactly is Bush selling every time he opens his mouth then? Whenever he speaks I hear God, Christian, morals, values. If anyone believes religion is not what won this latest election, they are lying to themselves.

His speech today god mentioned 9 times. I don't know if he thinks we cant survive with out his use of the word god or what. Were on our own till judgment day. At least I think thats what were told. Everyone will answer that day. So everyone should be there best everyday. But does it mean you have to do it for god?

God is many things to many people--might be a mountain or the sun to some tribe in Africa. Most religions in Western world are based on values--so you tell me where do you want to raise your children--in town with church on corner and white picket fences with flag wavers -
or city with gay bar on one corner-porn shop on the other--and gangs roaming the street?
appears to me one lives by conservative values the other liberal values--damn shame we can't build a fence and force each to live with their convictions.

NOTICE that I have no use for RELIGION!

Didn't say a damn thing about supporting GAY LIBERAL ELITIST WHATEVER.

I am not a fan of gay marriage OR the crap that is being peddled on TV as representative of American culture. As a matter of fact, I think Howard Stern is despicable and should be banned - as well as at least half of the rest of the garbage out there.

SOME of you supposed MORALISTS have attacked me for attacking Howard Stern in the past. Go figure.

Love the way you neo-cons read your Bullshit into everything.

As far as Christians slaughtering people, frankly there isn't anyone LEFT to slaughter NOW is there? I mean, the American Indians have been subdued, the South American Indians have been subdued. Some would say Christians are slaughtering Iraqis right this minute. Personally, I do not agree with that but I can certainly see how many Iraqis and others around the world would.

My point is, don't come in here with, as Freeze says, and I quote:
"...nah only muslims answering to Allah believe on killing, tortuing, raping, and pillaging if it means advancing their religion..." AS IF Christians have not done the same in spades.

Its not the Muslim religion - its ALL organized religions. Because religion is all about urning OFF your own brain and letting someone ELSE do your thinking for you. They'll tell you how it is.

P.S. Nosigar, you are incomprehensble.

shamrock--talking about certain values and leading with certain values are two separate items entirely.

I will take my comment back partially. Maybe I am a complete moron, but I give Bush a little bit of credit and do feel that he does things with good conviction most of the time. I am not as confident in Cheney (although I do think Cheney is a very intelligent man).

My next point is not intended to turn this into a rep vs. dem, but it is a good, recent example of what I mean.

John Kerry tried to talk about his personal convictions about being a Catholic to get votes, but he quickly turned suit when the subject of abortion came up. Because he was vying for the liberal vote, he could not stand up against what he stated he felt he believed in. I, personally, think this is one of the main reasons why Kerry lost. No conviction.

I will probably never agree with any politician on every subject. But if I feel that he is leading with the right intentions and our country's best interest in mind, then I will support him (not to be translated as BLINDLY FOLLOWING like many of the people here like to call it).

Bush has made mistakes. Bush is not the smartest man America has to offer. But I do feel that he has done an above average job with the situations that he has faced. That is just my personal opinion.

One of my main issues with this board is the amount of hate that is spewed. That is just not healthy.

"the bunker"
""Freeze, Christians have slaughtered more people in the name of their religion than ANYONE"

that may be true....but thankfully, christianity has progressed into the 21st century.....what we are dealing with now....radical islam and wahabism.... is firmly entrenched in the 16th century....and they aim to keep it that way....

i do agree with most of marco`s post on religion,though....our government is based on a "christian value" system...and it works pretty well......but,the separation of church and state is a necessity....

not to the extent that the aclu takes it....but,it is a necessity...

I like what weasel just said.

so you tell me where do you want to raise your children--in town with church on corner and white picket fences with flag wavers -or city with gay bar on one corner-porn shop on the other--and gangs roaming the street?

Yes, DTB - these are the exact 2 choices we face. There certainly is nothing somewhere inbetween the 2. ....isn't always the conservatives getting busted in porn shops and gay bars anyway? Those establishments exist because of repressed perverted conservatives in denial. :)

Right on target murph!

And I also agree with weasel (it happens).

No doubt that relative to Islam, mainstream Christianity has progressed. (But I wonder if what we see on the news is mainstream Islam - certainly it appears so).

Is it any wonder many, myself included, are just fed up with "religion" in general. Constant murdering in the name of "God" in the Middle East - admittedly often a cover for political power maneuvering.

To prove I give equal "time" to all religions here is a post I made recently in another thread :

"I think we have all as Americans completely underestimated how determined a large part of the Moslem world is to regress into the Stone Ages. I mean, come on...what in hell is going on with people that are still running around in these get-ups out of an Ali Baba movie? Then you have these way Orthodox wacko Jews still running around with their comical little hair ringlets, dreadlocks, or whatever they're called.

I wish all these people would just:

EVOLVE from their current states of IDIOTIC ANACHRONISM!"

dawg, thank you for your opinion, I agree with much of what you say, although cant agree that Bush has done a "above average job". I'm not a Democrat either, I really despise partisan thinking, think its noting but negativity.

I firmly believe Bush would do anything or get behind any belief to win a election. Just as Rove advised him in his slander and negative campaign against McCain in 2000, he again somewhat brilliantly designed and advised Bush to get behind the religious Christian angle because it was a huge population he could USE to win the election. Just look above at what ridiculous statements such as DTB have left us with to prove my point. There are now thousands of people that actually think that negatively.

Republicans = white fence, church, flag

Democratic = gay, pornographic, gangs

this juvenile mentality is exactly what decided our last election, that is my problem. Rove designed it and Bush ran on it, he exploited it and further divided the country. There were many REAL issues to be addressed, but gay marriage fear and other ridiculous non issues trumped everything. This much like the Willie Horton non issue with his Dad got him elected. But with the House, Senate, executive and judiciary all in his favor what has he accomplished? Everyone says well I don't agree with Bush regarding the war, taxes, religion, abortion, technology, jobs, stem cells, borders, pretty much everything....but look at the alternative, we could have had gay bars, prostitutes, and gangs on every single street in America. And that population keeps drinking the juice, right dtb??

I would actually have some respect for Bush if I believed HE BELIEVED what he was preaching, but it is only the tool that got him elected.

Most of your post I appreciate, but I don't necessarily agree with some of it.

So you are saying that Karl Rove is responsible for drawing those lines that you correctly state are immature and incorrect? That is ludicrous. Those political tactics are as old as, well, the flag itself. I'm not defending Rove, but he certainly did not create this monster of an election campaign process that we have. He just mastered the manipulation of it (once again not defending that, either).

I would like to think (maybe naievity here) that I agree with Bush on abortion, technology (I'm not sure where he stands here), stem cells (I think he made the best call for today--any other decision would have completely set the other side off), borders (lousy job of protecting them, but I would be willing to bet that he feels the same way about them personally that we do), etc.

The one thing that you stated that I agree most with is that it is quite disappointing what our government (namely Republican Party) has been able to accomplish with all branches of the government from a group that should somewhat agree on things. I personally felt that we (my government and my party) would show more pride in their work.

This may also lead to the reasoning that I don't follow government all that closely and why I am not a blow-hard for the Right even though I do feel that I am a Republican (more or less).

In god we trust. That does not mean we founded our country based on god. It means we trust in something and the name is god. DTB is right. God is different things to or can be different things to many. As for trust. It's a saying. I can say I trust in god. I can also say I trust in my Mother and Father or DTB, Kosar to name a few. And I always say you should me as good as you can ever day. No matter what it is. But do make it legal. As for war in Iraq I don't buy its Christan against Muslims. At least not the majority of the two.

Hmm is not the liberal element backing gay marriages--is not a liberal element backing NAMBLA--- My opinion is these are extremes dentrimental to society in general.

Share with us what religious groups agendas are detrimental to society.

Yep Kerry tried the move to the right on religion--hilliary doing the same--but not unusual

1000's of convicts each year proffess they got religion when parole time comes around--don't know of many that claim they lost religion in an effort to convince any they are reformed to enter society--Why is that???

--and YES there is happy medium where both Dems and Rebs co-exist in harmony but I am not speaking of Dems I am speaking of liberals. The two are getting farther apart all the time.

I reaffirm what I said--far right religious elements you can turn off-- They do not pose threat on your life or life of your children or your health.
