Every bartender knows someone who makes book. Simply hang a little so they get to know you, and inquire.
Bookmaking is illegal.... duh!, but in L.A. County the fine is $250 and probation. Most who are inclined think it's worth the effort.... :scared
My local is in Orange County where the fine is huge and jail time is mandatory. He gets around it by having his "office" over the county line. The phone number is in L.A. county.

If that is LA soon to be San Diego, you would have Caliente in Mexico, a half hour away or a first class OTB facility in Del Mar. You could also hang at 4 or 5 Hooter's or Trophy's and hook up there.
