okay, this has been bet up to -3 UW and they have not been +50% ATS in 5 years; infact, i'm not sure anyone is worse than the Huskies vs the # over the last 3 years, coming in 16 games under .500 vs the MAN ....

their QB situation is a mess, I dont even think they know who is gonna start ... Ive talked to some close to program, and tho they like TY, they think its no rose garden .... their OL has been chaos for years since Bracket Buster Rick was here and didnt think they were necessary ...

the UW has 17 ret. starters that earned their only win in 2004 vs. powerhouse san jose--and the UW didint cover until their finale vs wsu ...

their qbs threw at 42% and 34% (stanback) clips, their RBs come back with app. 3.8 ypg as a unit ...

the last 2 years they've scored 9 and 16 pts in openers .... they are also 1-6 ats vs non conf opps ... the UW is a boggling 2-34 ats when scoring less than 20... LY they broke that # only 3 times

I think this line has been bet up b/c of TY, but really what did he do at ND? No #1 nfl picks in 5 years (i know thats not all his fault) but they did it with mirrors in his first season, then 11-13 SU the last two seasons and two bowl game thrashings, when a staff should reap their cerebral fruit .. Kudos tho, he did manage to pommel the 2004 Huskies 38-3 ;)

AF returns their starting QB Carney, who tossed for 1300 yards and led team in rushing; plus, their entire OL comes back ... altho DeBerry had a losing seaosn at 5-6, 2004 was his youngest team ever ... this man can coach, I've always been impressed with his teams' spunk ... hes 11-7 ats as rd dog too ... they have 12 starters returning ... this is maybe irrelevant but Deberry is 7-1 ats as first dog of year

The game isnt even in UW Stadium, its at the seahawk's barn, and UW ticket sales are horrible; AF will be close to as noisy, as they are bringing a good throng I read

Im not sold TY is The Answer (i know Iverson isn't) and Ill take AF +135 ML

pt1, you're definately scaring me a touch as i am on washington here. i admit last year was a disaster but (absent the turnovers) they did look decent over the first few games. they handled fresno state at the line of scrimmage and i think they do the same with air force. our linebackers will be the strength of the team and just what is needed to stop the option attack. i think stanback is one of the breakout players in the country this year, especially now that he is free to play the first 4 games without looking over his shoulder. i think he can be electric with a good dose of the ole husky option and some sprint action plays where he can throw a safe ball or tuck it and make something happen.

on another topic, is nate the great's son the real deal? a future Romar guy by chance?

take care

ps -- how can you diss iverson like that? he has more heart and more guts than any athlete in past 25 years.

Not to nitpick, but Iverson has more heart and guts than Michael Jordan or Walter Payton...don't think so.

Juice,

Nate's son is one of my favorite kids I have ever coached and had a solid summer guarding the best PGs in nation, his FOH team won the adidas tourney and then got waxed vs Lopez twins in the clash of adidas vs Nike games in LV ... as far as where he'll end up, being only a JR. its hard to say, hes only 6'1 not sure if he'll grow any more like Mitch he hasn't got poppa's height ...

as far as the UW fball, maybe they will be better but they have been the worst ats for a long time, tho who knows Im sure they have more "talent" and should come out fired up, I just dont see it translating into many Ws this year

and as far as AI etc., I have been stedfast against him and Kobe for many years as being selfish, 'ME FIRST' players that ultimately destroy chemistry ... they are the epitome of anything I would ever want on my team ... Heart, as in effort, and heart as in a giving altruistic teammate goes both ways.

In case you are curious, you might enjoy reading something i found long ago... This is NOT my post, I just concur with the findings 100%

How bad IS Iverson?
Posted: 11/30/02 12:20:42 pm

As one who believes Iverson is guilty of hurting the game (especially the American game), I look for evidence to the fact. Here is my latest discovery.

People's Evidence 1:

Last year Matt Harpring played for Philly. He played 81 games and averaged 31.4 minutes. He also averaged 11.8 points and took 838 shots. He has a career shooting percentage of 46.3.

People's Evidence 2:

Last year Iverson played 21 FEWER games and took 1669 shots - almost 100% more shots in 26% fewer games. His career shooting is 41.1%.

Sidebar:

As a coach, who the hell would YOU want shooting the ball?

Peoples Evidence 3:

This year Harpring plays for the Jazz. He is averaging FEWER minutes per game - 30.8 and scoring 17.5 ppg. 48% higher scoring. During Utah's six game winning streak Harpring has averaged 25.2 ppg. He broke his career high November 26 against the Clippers scoring 30 points. He broke it again the next game, November 29, against the Wolves scoring 33 points. What has been the difference?

We call Harpring to the stand:

Why is your scoring up this year?

"In Philly, everything was based on Allen Iverson, and if you play there, that's what you accept,
Here, it's fun because if you make a cut, if you get open, you're getting the ball. I've had more
opportunities and shot attempts this year because [his teammates] are not biased about who they pass the ball to."

Did you get the ball much in Philly?

"A lot of times, I'd make cuts and they would go unnoticed, I'd never get the ball,"
Here (Utah), everyone has an equal chance to score. It's just who is open at the time."

But what was your role in Philly?

"Larry Brown tried to tell me, 'You're not a shooter. All I want you to do is rebound and defend.
And then some games that would change, and all of a sudden I'd be a shooter. It varied, depending on the way
Allen (Iverson) was playing.

What about in Utah where you have Stockton and Malone?

"That's what makes it even more fun, because you're playing with John [Stockton] and Karl,
two Hall of Famers, and they're as unselfish as anyone. The ego and stats don't get in the way."

Verdict:

Iverson does not make his teammates better, he makes them WORSE!

P.S. Hell, he even makes his coach WORSE!

*****************************************************************

Not wanting to turn this into a war, you asked my opinion, I can't be convinced otherwise after 40+ years of watching and playing the game. I don't see it as "dissing" AI by calling him out on his lack of respect for his profession by chronically coming late to games or missing practcies or thinking practice is optional or a nuissance. I have never coached a decent player who didn't practice his ass off. MJ, Rice, Edgar,Tiger, or anyone of true greatness coveted their game and didn't neglect or vilify practice, they've embraced it.
