I am really curiou to know about this, cause I watching cnn right now, and they are now turning people away from the astrodome to stay.

The insurance adjusters should have camp set up somewhere to move these people out and put them up in hotels??? Anybody know??

Well i understand what ur saying but I thought someone said homeowners are required to have flood insurance and i know alot of people I am watching on tv are homeowners. Just seems to me even if the insurance company has to send u to chicago for a hotel room they should accomdate you.

At least in NJ flood insurance only covers structural damage, not anything personal, floors, equipment etc etc.. In this case it still would help but I was surprised to hear this. Basically a month ago they had a "10,000 year" rainstorm...something like 14 in of rain in a few hours. Our neighbors house had 4 ft of water, caused 100grand of damage. Insurance company will pay nothing because they do not cover "acts of God". That is their exact wording.

Had their washer busted and flooded the house, it would be covered.

And we ask who the biggest crooks in the country are ;)

Holy Chit Saint that's just awful.

I just like to see on TV these good hand people, (insurance adjustors) meeting these buses arriving in houston and giving these people w/insurance flights outta there to new home destinations til the mess is cleaned up, that is all, but I guess that is not real world. Would make for a good insurance ad, where's that geko at??

C,

Right or wrong the insurance policies dont provide for what you are saying. As for Saint's post I cant speak for NJ but typically insurance coverage for floods is limited both for sturcture and for personal property, but not to the exclusion of personal property. I forget the numbers, but I have a $700k house but teh flood insurance only goes to about 300k I think, and personal property is something like 60k. Saint's example sounds like someone with homeowner's insurance but not flood insurance. A flood is an act of god - if that was a true exception flood insurance wouldnt exist.

I feel you on that. I've had my own issues with insurance companies, and those don't even compare to something like that. There are plenty of groups in this country to bitch about, but none match the pure evil of the insurance industry.

C,

Not trying to argue with you but flood insurance is probably all that is in play here. If someone has a rider for wind coverage that could apply, but we all know the 2 policies will be in dispute as to which is truly responsible. But, again, being realistic, the vast majority of those needing a place to go are probably not property owners much less paying for all of these forms of coverage. I live in a place where there is next to zero chance of a flood in the millenium and it cost 400 bucks a year. Imagine what it costs in NO. I am no fan of insurance companies, but what you raise would be an issue of charity rather than a contract.

Yeah see what ur saying, guess i dont fully understand, but i liived in an apt back in the 80's that caught fire and they didn't hesitate to move me in a hotel to live for 2 months.

Hope to hell my homewoners would at least do that for me if my house catches on fire, i know diff. scenerio.

Maybe Agent will answer this for me.

Fire is covered by basic homeowners. Flood is an entirely different animal. If it weren't for the Feds insurance companies wouldn't even offer it.

Let's so for argument sake your thought was right. How many insurance companies do you think would be in business next week?

Yes Countin you should have "LOSS OF USE" coverage on you Homeowners that would cover living expenses probably up to the actual loss sustained for a maximum of 1 year. However it could be set up any number of ways so you might want to check. However not sure on the law in NO it could be anything, all states are so different but I would say it is flood only and it only covers partial property as stated. I too would like to see some of these people helped NOW, but you know with these companies losing BILLIONS rates are going up. Look what happened after 9/11. It opened the gates for 30-60% rate increases, credit scoring and all kinds of chit so you know its coming. Hell think of what gas prices do and they dont lose what these companies will have to pay. moon1 Bend the fukc over guys cause here it comes.

That Loss of Use is what I would figured they would have down south alos.

Guess I am just assuming too much is all. I know it would finacially kill some insurance companies, but they are insurance companies.

Thanks for answering buddy!

most of the people that are now in houston did not have jobs. the kids, elderly, handicapped, etc. that's a different story, but the perfectly healthy 20-60 year olds....they lived in government housing....they have mooched off the system for years. there's no way in hell they had any kind of insurance.

Where are the insurance adjusters, you ask? Why there in respective offices prepariing denial of coverage letters to their insureds and verifying that their insureds have paid up there premiums. Where else would they be?

I think a very small amount of their money is actually made on Insurance. Insurance companies own buildings, invest in real estate, put money in the stock market, etc. Insurance is just a front to get the cash to invest in other money making plans. :cursin:
