Cut off their hand, no seriously though best thing to do is fire his/her ass and notify the police and press charges so they won't do it to somebody else.

We also caught someone cheating, fired them and had the police come to make sure everyone saw. This is in an office environment too.

We fired her.......we then had the cops walk her out past the other employees, just to make sure they knew we took it seriously.

Write them up first so you have it in writing when they try to file for unemployment. If they think there is a chance they won't get fired it will be much easier to have them sign on the dotted line.

Then have them arrested and walked out by police. Drop charges if you want, but message is sent.

One can never stop employee theft. But attempting to hire quality people instead of a warm body helps. Also, treating your employees with respect and care helps. That being said, they will still steal.

If you have a cash register type of business go out during their shift and z-out the register, take the cash drawer, and reconcile it. Just say it is a normal procedure you follow.

If you give your employees banks to start their shifts, but an extra $20 in the bank and see if they report it. If they don't report it, make it $20 short and see if they report that.

yes. and, i gave her another chance, and she did it again. lesson learned - if someone will steal from you once, they will do it again.

Howie is right. Steal once will steal again and often try to get other employees to help.

Fire them but make 100% sure that you've got proof it was them so you can avoid any lawsuits.

I don't think it's possible to totally eleminate employee theft. I know a friend who owns a bar says it's impossible for him.

I once owned a golf shop. To curb employee theft, I gave each employee a dozen balls per month and 1 glove. (the easiest items to steal). In addition, I gave each one a pr. of Footjoy shoes at Christmas. I think it cut down on my inventory loss considerably.

No but I did catch a guy trying to hitchike under the hightop into my fireplace that was sleeping on my couch after a rough night. The ex wife heard the TV on and he was watching the cheet-os channel and giving Mr. Greenjeans a good rogering into my brick hearth. Had to kick the sorry bastard out before he could finish. Sorry bastard went through half a bottle of Dawn dishwashing liquid too. Freak.
