Where do I start...as most of you know I was a B.H. pilot in the service-I was in Gulf War I and was wounded in Somalia-I did covert Ops in other lands.....I was a registered Republican up till a year ago-My father a Lawyer/judge in his career is a republican-I can no longer in good sense support this administration (Bush)--BUT-I did not support Clinton either-as a matter of fact I actually blame him for me being wounded-(even to this day people dont know what kind of shit storm he put thousands of Army and Marines into in Somalia.....What does this have to do with New Orleans?? I will tell you...this administration has put our best resoursces and response units in Iraq-period.....Guys I know that would be part of any kind of mass rescue operation in N.O. are over in Iraq-period...It took Bush time to respond because the units they used are 3rd stringers-no offense to them but it is a fact...

As far as people not evacuating-this happens around the world-people stay behind no matter what officials tell them--that is not Bushs' fault--response time and how they did respond is...

I very rarely talk politics here, but no matter what your political affiliation is, you have to look at what is going on right now in America-how we are percieved-how we alienate----we must stop the killing in Iraq of our brave young men-( the same men who would volunteer in a minute to help in N.O.)-we must improve our relation with our allies and countries of the far east...there is much more I could say but Opinions are like azz holes everyone has one.......take care

Good post, worm.

I agree with most of it, but we still had the assets to IMMEDIATELY go in there and I don't think it made any difference that the 'first string' is in Iraq(as ridiculous as that 'war' is). The 'third string,' as you put it, are doing an incredible job. Coast Guard, Army reserves, national guard, navy, marines, FEMA workers(not administrators), Red cross and TONS of 'regular' people....why did it take so long for all these great people to get there?

yes-I understood your point from the beginning, and I agree the buck has to stop somewhere-and everything was handled badly and that is tragic in my book....Bush administration is more concerned with agendas in the middle east....rotten, horrible.....

I was landing "crippled " -that means I had several malfunctions-and I put down hard and there was quite a bit of light weapons fire and I took a hit to my eye/forehead......lost partial vision-ending my mulitary career--also lost my best friend that day-he died no more than 20 feet from me.......have had 6 operations on my eye since.......

Our best could not have done it faster if they weren't deployed in a timely fashion.

This is the answer. No matter what your qualifications are, if you're not deployed you're of no help.

I'm still of the mindset that the tardiness lies with the local and regional officials. They have the best "feel" for whats needed and can react the fastest. Everyone knows the Federal govt. is a slow moving bureaucracy that cannot respond as quickly as local governments. N. Orleans and Louisiana must take primary responsibility for quick response and immediate action. Of course, that can be followed by Federal assistance, but local officials were caught off guard by the enormity of the events and immediately began pointing fingers....and sadly the race card.

God help those poor souls in need.

I just think everything possible should be done for these people now, and worry about the finger pointing later...
