If you are thinking of donating to the cause, but haven't made up your mind, can't decide which organization to donate to, or are just too plain pissed off for a political or social reason to contribute to the normal channels, here is a possible viable solution to contribute, especially for animal lovers.

True, the people need help, but there are 50 foreign countries helping and most of our U S folks will donate to the Red Cross and other like organizations. The Animal rescue organizations will probably be the ones overlooked in this situation.........and they desperately need help now, especially financially.

Below are a list of bona fide Animal groups directly giving aid to the displaced & injured animals. All are non-profit. Any or all will greatly welcome your check, however small it may be. And you can take comfort in the fact of knowing that you possibly helped save someone's beloved pet. And be rest assured that they won't shoot at the help and assistance when it comes for them ! :)

HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE U S-has over 30 volunteers in the disaster area. Checks to:
HSUS Disaster Relief Fund. Mail to:
HSUS
Dept. DRFHBM
2100L St. NW
Washington D C 20037
www.hsus.org

NOAH'S WISH--nonprofit organization that
rescues & shelters animals in a disaster. Checks to:
NOAHS WISH
P O Box 997
Placerville, CA 95667
www.noahswish.com

The only pet friendly shelter in the region, currently housing 150 horses, goats, pigs, etc. is:
MISSISSIPPI ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE
4395 South Drive
Jackson, MS 39209
www.msarl.org

AMERICAN HUMANE ASSOCIATION
63 Inverness Dr. E
Englewood, CA 80112
www.Americanhumane.org

LOUISIANA SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS--I am wondering what type of mail service is available, but checks to:
Louisiana SPCA
1319 Japonica St.
New Orleans, LA 70117
www.LA-SPCA.org

UNITED ANIMAL NATION-Assists animals across the nation resolve crises. Their animal rescue service trains hundreds of people each year to rescue animals displaced during disasters.
UNITED ANIMAL NATION
1722 J Street
Ste. 321
Sacramento, CA 95814
www.UAN.org

Phew.....that was a lotta typing for a lousy and slow typist, but if it garners just one or two checks from Madjackers, it will be well worth it. I, the groups and most of all, the needy animals thank you so much............THE HITMAN

Good info I will contribute to this.

What really bugs me is the people that left their houses and left their pets inside. Heard stories earlier in the week of dogs barking in the houses that were submerged by water. I cannot believe someone would confine their animal in their house where it is trapped to drown. That is just Bullchit in my opinion. If they couldn't take the pet with them they should have just set it free to give it a chance. JUST UNBELIEVEABLE!!! Makes me SICK!! Support Your Local Humane Society People and always Remember Bob Barkers saying....

I'm a little disappointed over the response to this thread.........of course, I have no idea how much was donated by readers, but the few hits the thread got is dismal. These lil guys & gals need a lotta help. Even $5 or $10 bucks will help.

In addition to the above organizations, The Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League announced that they will match up to $25,000 for all donations receiced on behalf of the dogs & cats affected by the hurricane.

Send to:
ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE/HURRICANE PET AID
3200 N Military trail
West palm Beach, Fl., 33409

Not an easy article to read if you are a pet lover.

aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20050904072509990001&ncid=NWS00010000000001

Try to find a little extra to send for the animals.

Thank you.

My girlfriend and I donated 200 each to the National Humane Society mentioned first. She wanted us to take my ski boat down and pluck the dogs out herself. Thank God she is letting the professionals handle it the correct way. Her dog is her world, and I somedays wish I was him. Good luck to all helping the animals.

Thanks , folks, for the kind words. Yes, just as many of you are, I am very passionate about the animal issue. I have sent 1 (betting) unit to each of the 7 organizations listed.

They all appreciate all you've done, but probably not as much as the pets that it will help out do.

As I mentioned, not to undermine the plight of the people, but, God help those poor animals..........the ones that were fortunate enough to somehow make it out alive.

Agent 0659-I will try to find out & if I do, I will post it. I would like to take one myself, and usually would be open to such, but, damn, we have our hands full with 8 now and really, really don't have room (or time) for more. One beautiful Maine Coon cat, the most intelligent thing I have ever seen, is still with us as a hurricane Andrew adoptee. The last (abandoned)one came last month is sickly and in addition is causing all sorts of problems !!
Thanks again...........for makin me feel like the thread was worth it..........THE HITMAN

i would like to think that *adoption* of hurricaine dogs is actually only *foster care* in some cases..... anyone that takes one of these pets that were forced to be left behind should try to be reunited with their masters.

if i still lived in MN, we'd take each and every animal we could, unfortunately my dads neighbors are bitching about the ones we have now :(

i donated at our local humane society a couple days ago for hurricaine animal relief.

Hitman,

Thanks for all of the information.

I donated to the Peggy Adams group to "double" the value. The people there were very appreciative and great to deal with.
