UCLA is currently -7 favorites and I see a lot of posters on MJ's on UCLA. No problem with that as there are very good reasons for taking UCLA or betting against OU.

HOWEVER...............

We have seen this exact same scenario played out 3 years ago. :yup

:director: WARNING! :scared

In 2002 UCLA beat #21 ranked Colorado St. by 11pts. Impressive. Week 2 UCLA traveled to Oklahoma St. and won by 2 TD's! Impressive. Week 3 UCLA played host to Colorado. The same CO team who was hyped up early in season and lost by 5pts to CSU. Then week 2 beat SDSU by 20pts. Then in week 3 got drilled by USC @CO 40-3. CO opened that 2002 season hyped up after USC game they were hyped down. Real bad. While UCLA was getting hyped up.

UCLA opened up as big favorites over Colorado at UCLA. Colorado had huge question marks with their QB play, their passing game, everything. Only thing that was solid was their RB's. See where I am getting at?

What happened?

CO destroyed the $hit out of UCLA and won 31-17 and the game was not even close.

This year UCLA has looked real impressive and OU has not met expectations at all. OU has huge question marks at QB and their passing game. OU is solid at RB (with maybe the #1 RB in the country).

UCLA is favored by 7pts over OU and we are seeing many posters here on UCLA. We see OU fans down on their team while UCLA fans are hyping theirs. Opening line of UCLA -5.5 soon goes to -7 over OU who has been one of the top programs that last 5 years.THIS IS A CARBON COPY OF 2002.

Very interesting how this one plays out. ;)

OU backers hoping history repeats itself. This is good stuff. :)

I may play Oklahoma later in the week purely on line value. Before the season started Oklahoma would prob have been favored by 6 in this game!

i understand what you are saying. A touchdown is a bit more than expected. There is a definite change in Carl Dorrell's attitude and confidence this year over years past. And his players are excited too... I guess we will find out for certain on Saturday if UCLA is a good team.

the pac-10 fanatic is now a big 12 honk when it becomes convenient...

i was at that game, colorado's o-line was a senior-laden group with 2 all big 12 players. they dominated the game, they had a 2nd string qb. with current nfl rb. chris brown and bobby purify. colorado was 0-5 vs. ucla and looking for revenge especially since they had just lost (40-3) in embarrassing fashion to usc the week before in colorado. not really the same scenario...
ucla avg. 53 points per game, #6 in nation.
we are holding offenses to 3.66 yards per carry...about 2 yards per carry better than last year..... so both sides are getting it done.

Both sides are getting it done but getting it done against some pretty weak competition. That doesn't mean UCLA can't beat Oklahoma. The Sooners offense is not as explosive as the Bruins, regardless of opponents. There is no doubt that the Bruins have the horses this year. Athletically, they are near the top of the PAC 10. Don't even think we have seen all that their offense can do. Should be a very interesting game and by this 3rd game of the year it may well define the season for both of these teams early on. Hoping for a UCLA win.

All UCLA needs to do is load the box and make OU pass the ball. OU didn't call 1, not 1 pass play in 2h against Tulsa. Carl has these guys flying around on D and OU has played some puff puff offenses. UCLA will be physical and OU doesn't have the talent to hold them out of the endzone. UCLA knows they can beat OU and confidence is all you need sometimes.

I can't remember the last time UCLA won a big game in OOC play. Texas? Alabama? YEARS and YEARS ago. Now vegas is asking UCLA to not only win but by more than a TD?

IMO this game is 50/50 but I want to make a big wager on it. So I'll keep on looking at it!

this game - along w/ M-State v. ND - is a difficult game to 'cap.

My initial reaction is to take the points w/ Stoops and the Sooners. But they struggled against Tulsa...Tulsa?!? OU's OL is "PU."

UCLA has not played anyone, so there are some unanswered questions. But I do think the Bruin O is for real. However, I don't trust HC Dorrell in a big game like this.

We shall see...I wanna comtemplate this game some more.

A big reason I am playing OU big and I will do a writeup later is for several reasons; one being they will start 3 freshman on their Oline including 2 true freshman that were slotted to be redshirted this year. On top of that OU which usually rotates 6 on their dline really only have 2 to rotate and those 2 were not even going to play this year but due to the loss of Birdine and J Williams they HAVE TO PLAY. OU did not run a pass in the 2nd half against Tulsa because they have no confidence in their QB. I will post more in my write up later but anyone looking to back OU should just look at a no play.

Take it from me, Oklahoma Sucks!

There is some discussion about holding back part of the offense for this game, but it is hard to believe considering we lost already.

I have watched Bomar in scrimmages and two games. he may be the best practice QB of all time, but he is not ready for prime time yet.

That being said, Adrian Peterson is the best RB in the country and if UCLA has a poor run defense, this could be low scoring and close.

Remember what happend last time a team from the state of Oklahoma tried to just run the ball every down on UCLA?

Ok St Passing 2-8 23 yds
Ok St Rushing 67-426 yds
Final Score: Ok St 31 UCLA 20

Stacking the box didn't work out so well last year. UCLA is less banged up and more expereinced on the line this year, but those stats are hard to ignore and they weren't facing AP.

This is a tough one, but I'm leaning towards OU right now as Peterson will have enough to get it done or at least keep this one close. The other thing is that this line would have been OU -10 before the season now its swung 17 points. I know OU has looked horrible - but has that much changed between these two teams in just 2 weeks? The public tends to over-react and over adjust to early games and I don't think we know anymore about UCLA after playing SDSU and Rice than we did at the start of the season.

i remember that game........as a matter of fact that was my first bet with an offshore book and i had colorado to win that game straight up and i think OKY wins this game straight up to get its respect back and will beat up little brother ucla for what big brother did to them in the championship game last yr........OKY is BIG AND BAD and just like OKY ST. ran all over UCLA last yr , OKY will do the same.....theres alot of value in the moneyline here :mj14:

UCLA's offense this year is far superior to last year's offense. Oklahoma's is much weaker. Even if UCLA gives up 200 to Peterson, how many points do you think Sooners can score without turnovers, run backs? Can they hold UCLA to less than that? I don't think I can play UCLA giving up so many points, but have a hard time finding a reason to play Sooners.

How will the possibility of Peterson not starting affect the game?
Where do you get that Peterson will not start for this game? Did you even bother to read the article that you provided a link to?

AP was suspended for Monday and Tuesday practices fro missing classes. If you think Stoops will not start him on Saturday, I sugest you recheck your sources.

Any chance you could work a little more drama into this game with information from three years ago that clearly has no bearing in this matchup?

Maybe you have some more useless comparisons because like Mark Lawrence and the Cincinnati Kid, trends are all I really use in formulating my NCAAF wagers.

Thanks in advance.

Very interesting how this one plays out.
Not really.

I see no value on either side in this game. Good luck.
