As far as rakeback goes you gotta go through an affiiliate, which I am not, but they can get you as much as 30% rakeback. I can reccomend the one I went through as I have used them befere and know they pay every month.

I thought about becoming one, but it's just not worth the hassle.

Agent, I sent you off an e-mail about it and BDB, I am sure you have one but if not shoot me an e-mail at my yahoo accont. mr10iron

E-mail sent

If you use me as a referral I would get a little something from the site, but you won't get rakeback that way so you would lose out big time.

Thanks, but your much better off following the instructions in my e-mail.

If you play on-line you absolutly want to be getting a rakeback deal. Here is how the process works, and again for the sake of simplicity I will use round numbers. You know what your play is like compared to these numbers:

When you play in a cash game and you are dealt cards (even if you fold pre-flop) and the pot is raked every player at the table gets credited and equal share of that rake towards his Monthly Gross Revenue. This is what the site figures they make off of you as a player.

Lets say there are 10 people at the table and the the pot is raked 50 cents, each player is given credit (again even if they folded pre-flop) for 5 cents toward their MGR.

Let's say you play 100 hands a day at the mnimum level and each hand is raked only 50 cents, thats $50 in rake or $5 towards your MGR.

You do this every day for the month and get $150 towards your MGR, if you have a rakeback deal in place you will get 25-30% of that money automatically sent to your Neteller account, which in this example is only $45, but it's still $45 you weren't getting before and you are playing anyway.

If you play in a SNG game or Multi table tournament of say $30+3, the entire $3 fee goes towards you MGR so you get 25-30% of that back as well.

I am not a high roller by any stretch, my first month with rakeback I really only played the last three weeks of the month and got $106 back, which is a lot better than the nothing I got prior to that.

You have to go through an affiliate to get a rakeback deal. I am sure Agent will assure you I am not the affiliate, but I can direct you to one that I am sure pays every month.

Let me know if that helps or if there is still something unclear.

I guess my only question is what, if any, are the drawbacks?

I found this article on-line, but you never know the author's motivation without fully investigating. I am not an ultra-frequent and most certainly not a high stakes player online. I get the feeling that the "bonus vs. rake back" debate would lean towards the bonus route for my playing style.

This opinion is in no way trying to be confrontational. I just really don't know much about this.

Rake Back article

Thanks for the info.

Well, if you are playing on-line anyway it is as simple as it looks, there are ZERO drawbacks.

If you decide to jump into on-line poker becasue of this and lose a fortune then I guess thats a drawback.

Look at it like this, if you are already playing you are getting NOTHING back at the end of the month, so if you sign up for rakeback and get completly screwed and never hear from the guy again you are still getting nothing back, no worse for the effort. I am just pointing people that ask to an affiliate I know had paid me every month.

I have even said I thought about becoming an affiliate before, but it just isn't worth the hassle.

What happens is instead of the poker site paying you cash to refer someone they give you a percentage of thier play (the rakeback). In the past the affiliate would refer you to the site give you a "Free" $50 and you would think it was a great deal when in reality they were keeping all the rakeback from your play FOREVER.

Now, being an affiliate is a very competitive game and the word is out on rakeback. Consequently, the affiliates who are getting 30% rakeback from your play are now giving you back 25% of it to sign up with them thus shrinking their profit to 5% of the total paid from the poker site.

Can't you get the bonus and rakeback? I thought the bonus was usually directly associated w/ the poker site and the rakeback through the affiliate. Why can't you just get both? Or wait until you get the bonus to start w/ the affiliate?

Dawg, I'm not certain of the authors intention in that article, but it is flat out false.

Every rakeback deal I have in place still allows me to take advantage of every bonus the sites offer.

The way that works, is it does indeed come off your MGR total, but it can't hurt you.

Say you get a $50 bonus paid to you in a given month and your MGR would have been $200 getting you $50 rakeback for the month.

Now since you got the bonus your MGR is ony $150 and thus your rakeback is $37.50

Without rakeback deal you got $50 bonus

With rakeback deal you got $50 bonus and $37.50 rakeback.

Your affiliate will make a little less on the months you get a re-load bonus, but don't forget he's doing nothing to get the money, you are the one playing.

Read what I just posted, and make sure you understand this part:

You must sign up with the poker site THROUGH the affiliate, you can't afterwards.

The idea is the affiliate is recruiting players for the site and he is getting paid for it, and in turn giving you part of it back.

That article is way off base.

No worries, thanks for the heads up. I have yet to sign up with the big boys so it should be ok. If you don't mind emailing me your affiliate if you say he pays, I would like to sign up with him soon.

Thanks for the info. Sounds interesting. I am wondering why I have never heard of it. Like you mentioned, it seems like a booming side industry in the market. I have been playing on-line for 5-6 years, but I rarely read anything on the industry because it is purely entertainment.

I am always interested to see creative ways people are able to make money.

Like anything else, if you got in early and hooked even a few decent size players you are sitting back counting the cash these days.

Say you could have got even ten 5/10 players signed up under you affiliate ID and were keeping all the rake back.

I would say the majority of those pots get the max $3 rake so if between ten players they played 10000 hands a month your payment would be around $750 for only attracting 10 players.

1000 hands each a month is not really that much, especially if they multi-table, so thats actually a small number, I am sure several affiliates are making thousands a month from this.
