Sure, LonghornMM....
I have seen Iowa in person 3 times so far this year, twice at home and in Columbus last Saturday and this team is horrible along both sides of the line of scrimmage.
Iowa lost all 4 of its defensive linemen from last season, including NFL rookies Matt Roth and Jonathan Babbinoux and frankly, their replacements are not getting the job done yet. They have some talent as they blew out Ball State in the opener and beat D-1AA Northern Iowa easily.
But it was in that U.N.I game that my concern about the quality of this years team grew. While UNI is a ranked D-1AA team, there just isn't any excuse for a Big-10 team AT HOME to give up the kind of yards they gave up to the Panthers.
They also don't seem to be playing with much heart or emotion, as if the leadership that Roth and the other Srs from last season provided just doesn't seem to be there.
Granted, Illinois is not a very good team, and they made a huge mistake (I.M.O) in hiring Ron Zook, its still a Big-10 program with the ability to compete with other Big-10 teams.
Would I love to see Iowa blow Illinois out? Sure. I'll be in Kinnick tomarrow and as much money as I throw the Universitys' way to assure great seats year after year, I want to see wins--and Iowa has a 21-game home winning streak on the line tomarrow. But our home schedule this season consists of Ball State(W), UNI(W), Illinois tomarrow (probable W), Indiana in 2 weeks (probable W), Michigan on the 22nd(things get interesting here...lol) and Minnesota on Nov 19th(interesting here as well, especially if we get past Michigan) when it should be good and cold to hopefully slow down that vaunted Gopher rushing attack.
To try and keep this reply to something shorter than 'War and peace' I'll close by saying that until Iowa shows me that they can stop someone on defense, I can't see laying more than a TD with my Hawkeyes.
Good luck if you play them, I'm passing on a side and probably the total as well....
