for whatever reason, have had excellent success betting on/against ohio state since tressel arrived. to me, this will be one of the toughest games ohio state will play all season. they will hammer michigan state next week. and could possibly run the table all the way to the season finale at michigan IF they win here. and thats a big IF because penn state just gives this team problems. the line is actually lower than i expected (im sure the minny game contributed to this). if penn state was catching 5 or more, id probably have to back penn state. but this line is favorable for buckeyes backers, though its still a real dangerous game.

also, theres something about big ten night games that brings out the best in the home team.

and ohio state has a history of playing like shit on the road in espn night games.

lost outright in northwestern last year
lost outright in wisconsin 2 years ago
almost lost outright as a big favorite in northwestern the year they won the national championship

....only the 7th night game in the history of Beaver Stadium - last night game was 2002, a 40-7 win over #8 Nebraska.

thought this line was going to be 5.5/6, but 3 is a no play for me - just enjoy it as a fan.

huge buckeye fan here. Watch this team very closely and SDSU this year when they played, as well as a small degenerate play on them against Texas. i will not be playing this game, however the play has got to be Penn St or nothing. Line looks to low, public will probably get a good piece of ohio state here and there is no way i would suggest backing them. I see a very low scoring grind it out type of game here. Dont expect Robinson to have much if any success and we know that the bucks can bottle up the run. That being said wouldnt be surprised to see Penn St get some field position against the stagnant offense of Ohio State. Bucks may win this game, but would not suggest betting them when the line appears to be a trap to suck the public in on the bucks

ysg, i agree with almost everything, except the first sentence. :)

i've been a penn state fan for over 25 years now. i finally saw my first game at beaver stadium this year, against south florida. the penn state offense has come a LONG way since that first game. michael robinson actually had a turnover-free game against minnesota. however, despite the dominance shown by PSU, he still only completed 13 of 32 passes. that's not gonna get it done against ohio state. and he's really shown no reason to believe he's gonna improve on those numbers. pure and simple, he is an athlete playing quarterback. his instincts in the pocket are terrible.

on the other side of the ball, i'm a little concerned because i think at this point, ohio state's offense may resemble northwestern more than minnesota. it's not run, run, run any more. penn state has a little more trouble with the open offensive game. i wouldn't be surprised to see troy smith have a very solid game.

all that being said... i will probably go with my heart on this one. penn state has quickly developed a lot of confidence. the crowd will be absolutely INSANE. 110,000 +. if penn state can ride that early wave of emotion, make a few big plays, grab a lead, and make ohio state one-dimensional, there's no reason they can't beat this team. i also agree that the line seems a couple points low. looks like they want some ohio state action.

one more note... i haven't seen a total yet, but i gotta think the under will be a solid play.

I was going to say the exact same thing. Take the UNDER. Penn State has a very good, very experienced defense. Penn State's offense is improved but still not as good as some may think. They've had a soft schedule and its a bit misleading.
Also, Tressel loves to field goal his team to victory.
I think the only way this thing goes over is with a lot of field possession turnovers or some random stuff in the special teams.
Great chance to go under.

This is the first game that jumped out at me when looking at the lines for this week. I think the books DO want action on the Penn State side, but the books don't play the game the players do and I believe OSU to have higher quality athletes....they are on the road, but I think OSU is the play here and that is exactly what I am going to do...the only question I am wondering about is for how much

I am not as big of a college guy like most of you guys. But i do love the big prime time games.
And for some reason i think this is going to be a
BATTLE.I like what gman said about Ohio st
playing like crap in espn night games. And somebody also said this line is a little low.
Is Penn st back?
That was a solid win over Minny, they looked like the Penn st we once knew.I believe they have returned 15 starters from last season.
371 yards on the ground against Minny is an eye opening stat.
I believe Ohio st leads the nation in run defense.
So they will be tested. But if the Lions can generate a running game i look for this game to be a barn burner.
Anyway,i would love to see Penn st come up big
in this game....The home team is 7-0 ATS in this series since 1988.

Penn State will be a large play for me this week. The Sweater Vest is just 3-10 vs the number on the road since the start of 02.

I agree with gman, bet against OSU this week and take them to roll MSU next week.

Might be heading up to PSU this weekend for the game. I'm not a fan of either, but can't pass the opportunity up.

Haven't looked at the game in depth, but looks like this game will come down to turnovers and special teams. I give that edge to Ohio State.

Ted Ginn who has yet to really break out. Josh Huston-K who has a big leg and a defense that makes big plays and will force the issue on Michael Robinson who is prone to making mistakes.

This game is a toss up. OSU are not a good rd team and who knows how good this Penn State team is? Why bet it when this Penn State team is kindof a surprise this year? The crowd will be loud when OSU has the ball. Either PSU or no play. Good Luck
