This topic worked last week with my skins play,so let`s try it again
I am going to use this topic every sunday till i lose, let`s go for 2 in a row :mj14:
Here`s some game notes....
Green Bay has a 13-5 lead in its all-time series with New Orleans, but was a 35-20 road loser when the clubs last met, in 2002. The Packers' most recent victory in the series came on the road in 1995, and they were 35-34 victors the last time the teams met in Wisconsin, in 1989. That game marks the only battle between the clubs at Lambeau Field, though the Packers and Saints squared off in Milwaukee County Stadium seven times between 1968 and 1985. Green Bay was 6-1 in those games. New Orleans' only road win in the history of the series came in Milwaukee in 1971.
The Packers' Mike Sherman and Saints' Haslett have met just once since both became head coaches in 2000, with the aforementioned 35-20 New Orleans victory serving as that matchup.
SAINTS OFFENSE VS. PACKERS DEFENSE
New Orleans was able to down Buffalo last week thanks in large part to the efforts of running back Deuce McAllister (304 rushing yards, 3 TD, 14 receptions), who rushed for a season-high 130 yards on 27 carries and also caught a couple of passes out of the backfield. The 100-yard outing was the first of the year for McAllister, who is now averaging 3.7 yards per rush. Backup Antowain Smith (37 rushing yards) struggled to find running room while spelling McAllister, netting minus-two yards on four rushes. Fullback Mike Karney had three carries for six yards and a four-yard catch in the triumph. The Saints enter Week 5 ranked 13th in the league in rushing offense (113.5 yards per game).
Stopping McAllister will be a greater challenge to Green Bay on Sunday without the services of starting linebacker Na'il Diggs (4 tackles on the year), who could miss up to six weeks with a sprained MCL. Diggs will be replaced on the outside by Paris Lenon (16 tackles), who started the first two games of the year when Diggs was out with a similar injury. The Packers did a generally good job against the Carolina running game last week, limiting Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster to a combined 89 yards on 28 carries. Middle linebacker Nick Barnett (42 tackles) recorded a game-high 13 stops, and linebackers Lenon and Robert Thomas (19 tackles) combined for eight tackles. Up front, end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (20 tackles) had seven stops in the game, and tackles Corey Williams (10 tackles) and Cullen Jenkins (11 tackles) had three each. Sherman's team is allowing 103 ground yards per game, which ranks 16th in the league.
Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks (938 passing yards, 2 TD, 5 INT) was quiet but efficient in last week's win over the Bills, completing 15-of-26 passes for 172 yards without an interception while also rushing for the team's only touchdown of the day from four yards out in the second quarter. Brooks was able to guide the team to the win without the services of wideout Joe Horn (15 receptions, 1 TD), who was nursing a hamstring strain and remains questionable for this Sunday. No. 2 receiver Donte' Stallworth (20 receptions) stepped up with an eight-catch, 129-yard outing in Horn's absence, his second 100-yard game of the season. Devery Henderson (7 receptions) was the only other New Orleans receiver to have a catch in the game, with his lone grab netting seven yards. Tight end Ernie Conwell (10 receptions, 1 TD), who is second on the team in catches, had one reception in the win. Brooks has been sacked nine times through the team's first four games, and was dropped once by Buffalo last Sunday. The Saints are 13th in the league in passing offense (222 yards per game) as they head into Green Bay.
A beleaguered Green Bay secondary held up reasonably well against Carolina on Monday night, allowing Jake Delhomme to throw for 206 yards and a pair of touchdowns but also holding former Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith (2 catches, 12 yards) in check. The starting group of cornerbacks Al Harris (13 tackles), Ahmad Carroll (15 tackles, 1 INT), free safety Mark Roman (23 tackles) and strong safety Nick Collins (17 tackles) will be expected to handle Horn and the Saints wideouts on Sunday. Roman and Collins had three tackles each against Carolina. Gbaja-Biamila (2.5 sacks) had a monster game for the Green Bay pass rush, notching a pair of sacks and a forced fumble to go along with his seven tackles in Monday's loss. Gbaja-Biamila and fellow end Aaron Kampman (16 tackles, 2 sacks) have combined for 4.5 of Green Bay's six sacks on the year. The Packers have allowed opposing QBs to compile a combined 110.7 passer rating in 2005.
PACKERS OFFENSE VS. SAINTS DEFENSE
Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre (1041 passing yards, 9 TD, 8 INT) tried to strap the Packers to his back in Monday Night's comeback, but the burden was ultimately too much to bear for the future Hall-of-Famer. Favre completed 28- of-47 passes for 303 yards and four touchdowns in the loss, also throwing his eighth pick of the year in the game. The signal-caller tossed scoring strikes to four different players, with wideouts Donald Driver (18 receptions, 2 TD) and Antonio Chatman (10 receptions, 2 TD) finding the end zone along with tight ends David Martin (7 receptions, 1 TD) and Donald Lee. Driver posted a game-high six catches for 92 yards in the setback, while Martin was productive with five receptions and 53 yards in the game. Favre will be without rookie wideout Terrence Murphy (sprained neck) this week, and will also be operating behind a line in which center Mike Flanagan (hernia) is out and tackle Chad Clifton (ankle) is questionable. The Packer line has allowed eight sacks and numerous pressures so far in 2005, but gave up just one sack on Monday night.
Seeking to place pressure on Favre will be a Saints pass rush that dropped Buffalo quarterbacks four times last week. End Darren Howard (16 tackles, 2.5 sacks) led the hit parade with two sacks on the day, and fellow ends Will Smith (13 tackles, 2 sacks) and Charles Grant (15 tackles, 1 sack) had one each while both forcing fumbles in the win. The Saints have totaled 11 sacks on the year. The New Orleans secondary allowed the Bills to amass just over 100 yards through the air, with cornerback Jason Craft (15 tackles, 2 INT) notching the lone interception of the day. Fellow corner Mike McKenzie (16 tackles, 1 INT), who had five tackles in the win, will be facing his former team for the first time. McKenzie wore a Packers uniform from 1999 until being traded amid a contract dispute during the 2004 season. Elsewhere in the secondary, safeties Josh Bullocks (7 tackles on the year) and Dwight Smith (20 tackles) come off a week in which they combined for 11 tackles. New Orleans currently ranks sixth in the league against the pass (178.8 yards per game).
The Packers will enter Sunday's game unsure of the status of running back Ahman Green (206 rushing yards, 17 receptions), who is listed as questionable with knee and quadriceps injuries. Green, who is averaging just 3.4 yards per rush and has yet to score his first touchdown of 2005 while operating behind a makeshift line, carried 14 times for just 36 yards against Carolina on Monday night. If Green can't go, the rushing load will be carried by Najeh Davenport (51 rushing yards), who has also endured a slow start to '05. Davenport had 10 yards on four rushes against the Panthers. Fullback William Henderson, who posted a pair of receptions in the Carolina loss, is tied for third on the team with 12 catches on the year. The Pack rank a distant 28th in the league in rushing offense (73.8 yards per game).
Green figures to accrue some ground mileage against a New Orleans team that enters Week 5 ranked in a tie for 29th in the league against the run (130 yards per game). The Saints allowed Buffalo to gain 141 on the ground last week, including 84 on 16 carries for running back Willis McGahee. Linebackers Courtney Watson (19 tackles), Colby Bockwoldt (17 tackles), and Sedrick Hodge (7 tackles), all of whom were quiet last week, will have to be more active against Green Bay. Grant did the best job against the run of any New Orleans player last week, tallying a team-high seven tackles in the triumph. Howard leads all Saints defensive linemen in tackles with 16.
*Packers are 4-0 ATS L/4 vs NFC South division opposition*.
*Packers are 18-8 ATS L/26 after playing on MNF*
