How was your trip to the mecca of college football? I'd love a trip report.

While I was watching that game the final usc drive took me back to when I was at south bend to watch ND FSU in 93. NUmber 1 vs number 2. ND was a big dog that day as well. It was a surreal expeionce for me.

I remember the game. Charlie Ward led FSU down close to scoring but came up empty at the end

I had a blast and it was the best CFB game I have ever seen and attended. My Dads favorite game was 1974 game with USC/ND where he attended. But now he said this game is #1. How was I so lucky that this was the year I decided to make my first trip to South Bend.

I left Thur morning to Chicago with my Mom, Dad, Brother and came home late Mon. night. Chicago is a great city. I wasn't expecting much but it blew me away. I LOVED the architecture and the many many many skyscrapers. Amazing.

Thur. had famous Chicago pizza at Geodellis (however you spell it). Very good!

Friday went to Navy Pier and USC pep ralley there. Got my picture taken with John Robinson. :) After pep ralley did boat cruise on the SEA DOG and went on the river in Chicago and got tour of skyscrapers. Amazing! Went up Sears Tower which was cool. Friday night went to dinner at the chophouse for great Steak dinner. Excellent food! Piano bar after that where I smoked a stogie. Was going to smoke it after USC/ND game but if USC lost I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. It is a $4 stogie which is a premium for me! Gurka.

Sat. morning we were supposed to leave at 7am go to CFB hall of fame, then go to ND campus and then game. Well to my disappointment it didn't work out that way. We left at 8am and decided not to go to CFB HOF. Not enough time. But we had plenty of time to tour ND campus which was really nice. Although I prefer USC's brick style better. The lake, church, grotto etc was great. Buildings I thought were boring appearance wise. I am biad to red brick buildings.

I had 10 yard line seats which was basically right next to press box. GREAT seats but I think all seats at ND are great because you are close to action. First time I saw ND band and I was very impressed. (they don't travel to USC for whatever stupid reason) I must say, I LOVE the tradition at ND games. Amazing. The band was fantastic and I was really impressed with the student section. They were located below us and the to left. They have all these cheers and hand signals and more importantly ALL IN UNISON! I wish USC had that.

The stadium is great but I have one MAJOR complaint. No replay screen. WTF is up with that? Get a freaking jumbo screen. I had to use my binocs and look into press box TV's for replays. :(

This def. was the loudest game I ever attended. USC might be this loud "if" it was build upright instead of going out. The crowd was HUGE advantage for ND and I amazed how loud it was. USC people told me ND and Oregon have the 2 loudest stadiums who travelled to both this year.

The biggest thrill I had was all the up and down emotions. I sat in ND section all decked out in my USC Hockey jersey and USC hat with my Dad who also was in USC clothes. All the ND fans around us treated us with respect and we interacted all game. But the ups and downs of this game was amazing. USC drives down field late 4th and takes lead I was screaming. But when ND drove down with less than 5min. the place was ROCKING! When they scored my God it was loud. Then it got super loud on Leinarts sack on 2nd 10. 4th and 9 was the loudest ever but when Leinart completed that 4th down pass the place went SILENT! CRAZY SILENT. The ND people in my section were crazy in belief. It was something else. Of course I jumped up and down screamed as loud as I can and lost my voice. It cracked and was gone! :mj07:

Then of course we had the USC fumble at goaline and USC TD which were even more UPS and DOWNS!

Best of all, after the game was over, EVERY ND fan surrounding me who I interacted with shook my hand. It was a blast!

Sunday went to couple museums and toured Loyd Wrights house. Very interesting. Had cocktails with my family up in Hancock tower overlooking the skyline. Amazing view! Best $12 cocktails I ever had thanks to the view! :) Ate dinner at Carsons Ribs which were very good. Went to Ditkas Bar that night and watched the Angels lose to the White Sox but enjoyed another stogie! Padron 2000!

All in all, I had a blast! 3 things I wasn't able to do was go see the ND ralley, CFB HOF and see WRIGLEY FIELD. ND ralley was SB and that is 2 hours from Chicago. Not enough time but I will make a trip back and saved stuff to do next time. Loved South Bend and Chicago is now one of my top 5 favorite cities.

#1 New Orleans (best city by far)
#2 South Beach
#3 Chicago
#4 New York
#5 LA

To top all of that, I had great weekend capping CFB, won my NHL play, and won a big bet on Ravens ML in NFL. Most importantly, USC is still undefeated! :) Def. the best sports weekend I have ever had. A memory that will last my entire life.

Any USC fans who read the board, South Bend is a must do trip! But stay in Chicago and drive to SB. USC/ND is the best rivalry in CFB!

That game seems to ring a bell with me as well Rex. :)

We went on to win the National Championship and Holtz was raising Hell N.D. didn't get it because they beat us on the field. He made some sense actually. The pollsters thought otherwise.

you claim to bet 500 a unit, yet a 4 dollar stogie is "premium" for you? whatever, dude...:mj07:

I'd rank Chicago above New Orleans myself, but to each their own. New Orleans will never be the same, I'm afraid....

Damn straight! Why do I need to smoke $12 cigar? Just because I am willing to bet $500 a unit? I never said I was wealthy and clearly stated $500 unit is a lot of money for me. Might be nothing to you.

My Grandpa last year sold his apartments for 2.5 million but he still won't buy cheese on his burger. He still drinks $2 wines. He just spent 4 months searching to find great deal on new car, and ended up buying a $35,000 car last week. The guy is worth over 5 million in assets. Point is, people choose to spend their money differently. I don't mind paying $20 for a great meal, but I will save myself $5 on parking if it means walking 3 blocks. In vegas I'll only play at $5min. or less tables. But in sportsbetting I am willing to risk $1000's. I enjoy a $4 cigar and to me, that is a premium cigar. To you, a $12 cigar might be a premium. I don't know what a $12 prem. cigar tastes like and I do not want to aquire that taste.

Anyways, I have posted screen shots of my graded and pending wagers. No reason to doubt my integrity, especially when I never have been caught in a lie.

I don't understand why I am always questioned about my integrity.

IMO New Orleans has the best food, drinks and entertainment. Everything is located in one spot which is really nice. I have been there 4 times!

3 best drinks there are Mint Julip, Sazzerack, and Hurricane. Only can get those drinks in New Orleans!

Robinson looked old. But I am glad Pete Carroll welcomed him back to the Trojan family. He spoke at the real USC ralley which I did not attend. He just made an appearance at the free pep ralley on navy pier.

what a tool you are, Scotty...:mj07:

a 4 dollar cigar is most likely to taste like dogshitte, but whatever floats your bubble, stud. never said anything about a 12 dollar cigar. You should try a padron or a punch, decent sticks at a decent price, usually 5-8 dollars each.

All of New Orleans is in one spot, huh? Would that be Uptown or the Garden District? Maybe you meant the Warehouse district? I'm confused...

Galatoire's and The Court of Two Sisters are great places--located in the French Quarter--but you knew that, you New Orleans hipster, you...

A few of my favs are Bayona, Brighton's and Upperline. Check them out next time your in town...

Only in New Orelans for a mint julip? Thats funny stuff...

Anyone with a half-way decent bar can whip up those two jokes of a drink....Sazzerack and a Hurricane? LMFAO!!

I have box of Padron 2000 and they are excellent. $3 smoke!

$4 smoke is great to me because I have not tried more expensive brands. I don't know any better! :) My price range is $4-$6 for premiums but I have a $12 premium stashed away for special day. Maybe USC winning the BCS National Championship?

Bourban Street! :em71:

I been to Court of Two Sisters Sunday Brunch twice. Excellent! Seafood omelette is my favorite! But the best place for Breakfast is Brennans which is a tradition for my family. Been there 4 times.

You are correct Galatoire's is terrific! Been there 3 times. Great Oysters Rockefeller!

Oliviers is a good choice for creole. Bourbon pecan pie for dessert.

Muriels I remember being good.

I was a tad disapointed with Emerils.

Last but not least, Cafe Du Monde for dessert with their Beignets!

A few of my favs are Bayona, Brighton's and Upperline. Check them out next time your in town...

I never tried these! I heard of Bayona. Thanks for the tips!

I only find them in New Orleans! Ummm are those tasty drinks! I also like the $1 Jagermeister shots in med. tubes! :)

Cafe Du Monde is the bomb-I heard they just reopened last week.

As far as New Orleans being a great city i personally would not go that far. Its a great party city and thats it. To me its a trash city. i cant stand the city and if they blew it up tomorrow it would not hurt my feelings at all. Every time i go you have to deal with the damn street vendors and homeless.

Thanks for the imagery Scott. Glad you enjoyed the game.

Growing up in the southeast and with a condo in the Warehouse District of New Orleans, I'm down there quite a bit. People tend to think the of Bourbon Street when they think of New Orleans and miss a city with a great deal of history and heritage. Next time you visit, which I'd honestly say wait a couple years, get off the beaten path and you'll be amazed at what New Orleans has to offer besides 3 for 1s on Bourbon St.

I agree lots of history in New orleans but still thinks its a trash city. If not for Bourbon St and the French Quarter that city would be a ghost town

Scott-- thanks for the great write-up on your trip to South Bend. It is a cool college town. I have seen one "off-game" there and would love to see a big game (USC, Tennessee, Michigan) there.

I also don't know why you catch so much grief. You are the aboslute biggest homer of all time, but I don't know why people get their panties in a wad so much. I think it might be because your team is so good. Oh well, screw it.

I will take a little objection to one of your comments:

Mint Julip, Sazzerack, and Hurricane. Only can get those drinks in New Orleans!

Mint Juleps are a KY drink. I welcome you to my home state anytime to enjoy a genuine Mint Julep at the Kentucky Derby.

And I agree that there are plenty cigars that are mighty tasty in the $4-6 range.

Now here is my request -- LOSE TO SOMEONE so my Dawgs can have a chance to get to the big one!

Thanks. Next on my list is to watch USC game in the south. USC plays @Arkansas next year but I don't think I will make it. Maybe USC vs Georgia battle! Be a lot of talent on the field!

I think there are many reasons. #1 like you said USC being so good and me predicting all this success 3 years ago on this site. I was laughed at. #2 I am not afraid to state my opinion and back it up. #3 Jealousy. I have posted and won over 50k (profit) in winners on this site. Everything documented and prob. makes people angry. I know there are posters here wish I lose big. :)

I guess I was wrong. I always thought New Orleans was the place to get those drinks. :) I have visited TN but not Kentucky.

And I agree that there are plenty cigars that are mighty tasty in the $4-6 range.

Def. Especially if you never had cigars priced higher than that! Just like wine. Box wine is good until you have something more expensive. Then $2 bottle wine sucks soon as you have $5 bottle. etc etc etc.

Try a Padron 2000. Cost in the $3 range and is fantastic.

Now here is my request -- LOSE TO SOMEONE so my Dawgs can have a chance to get to the big one!

:mj07:

Sorry about your QB getting injured. USC would prob. be a 3 loss team if Leinart was injured. from day 1. As for USC losing, USC has 3 tough games left. Fresno St., @CAL and UCLA.

I wish there was a playoff system. If USC lost to ND they prob. would have been left out and not a chance to defend their title. 4 team playoff would be sweet!

Giordanos was the place. :) You have a great hometown!

If you're going to come to the South for a game you should come to one that is an event.

I am obviously biased to UGA's gameday experience, but I have had a great time at several other schools.

Worth the trip:
Tennessee -- the magnitude of the stadium is worth the trip
Auburn -- just a great atmosphere
Florida -- I've only been to the Swamp once, but it was a great time. It was when they were building the Jaguars stadium, so both schools got one home game a piece.
Alabama -- if I didn't go to UGA, this is the SEC school that I would have attended. I think it is the most similar to Georgia. I was there when the ESPN Gameday crew was there for the UGA game. Damn, from what I can remember it was the best road trip experience that I had.
South Carolina -- I am always shocked at the dedication of these fans (also see UK below)
LSU -- Whoa! Leave the women and children at home! ;)

Not worth the trip:
Ole Miss -- The Grove is overrated in my opinon, and the stadium is too small (if it is still the same one)
Arkansas -- I must admit that I never made this road trip
Vandy -- right
Kentucky -- for as shitty of a football team as they field, their crowd is pretty good. They also have some of the most underrated girls there.
Mississippi State -- never made this trip
