"Between 5:00pm EDT and 5:00am EDT Wilma's pressure dropped from 970 mb to 884 mb and her winds increased from 80 mph to 175 mph. This rate of strengthening in incredible. A strengthening of 86 mb in 12 hours is absolutely amazing. Even a 1 mb/hr strengthening is quick. We saw a strengthening of 7.2 mb/hr."

No doubt, Tom. The models all have it coming straight through Fort Myers. Still 4 days out, though, and obviously things can change. If they don't, on saturday morning i'll be coming up probably a little further north than you on the coast or maybe go to Orlando.

From John Campbell, Lee County Emergency Management.

11:00 a.m.

National Weather Service advises they predict 75-80% chance of the eye hitting Naples with Cat 3 force.

If so Lee County will have 5-6 hours of high winds and some hurricane force gusts starting around 3-4 p.m. Saturday.

This storm is highly unpredictable at this point, but could come ashore in our area as a category 2 or 3 Hurricane. There is a strong high pressure ridge building to the north of the track which should cause it to turn sharply to the East Northeast by Friday and bring it into the Southwest Florida gulf coast sometime Saturday/Sunday.

Expect winds to pickup to 30-40 MPH Friday night or early Saturday morning if the forward movement increases, as anticipated, when it makes the turn. From that point we could have winds increasing to hurricane force in our area late Saturday/Sunday.

Of course, this is worst case for us, but I recommend you plan for it at this point. I also recommend residents move all loose items to cover. I'll keep you abreast of the latest information if you would like. By the way, storm surge is not anticipated to be a major factor except for the North facing portions of barrier islands.

If you have someplace you can go for the weekend don't wait, go now.

Hope they're wrong about the path Kosar, best of luck man. Let me know if you're coming up this far north.

Another idea, if you stay with DTB, you guys could debate non-stop and he could school you a bit on Clinton. :mj07:

seriosly, I'm sure he knows that DTB is probably the most benevolent guy on the forum and would take him in no problem. That's just the kind of guy he is.

Hope you're ok, Matt!

Thanks Lux, Ripken, Phenom and Clint. I used to not take these things seriously, and I guess I still panic less than most around here, but after Charley I started paying more attention. I was on leave in '92 and went through Andrew at my parents house in Boca Raton, but still didn't really take them too seriously. Had a half hour wait to get gas yesterday early afternoon and now there is no gas anywhere around here. Every pump is bagged.

And Lux, Clint is right, Wayne and I would get along just fine as long as he kept Clinton out of it.
