good lord what a lame excuse to have the judge removed!

Prosecutor Ronnie Earle signaled he intends to contest the request for a new judge.

"What this means is if a judge had contributed to Crime Stoppers that judge could not hear a burglary case," Earle said. "Carried to its extreme, that is what I think this motion means and I think that's absurd."

"We don't live in a country where political party determines the measure of justice," Earle said, adding that he though DeLay could get a fair trial in the state's capital.

Thank you all for proving my point.

The judge will get removed and should. It is pretty basic law, but I know that offends you partisans.

So, now a judge's political party association is grounds for dismissal on a case? You fellas cannot be serious. Judges are VOTED on and are listed as a Republican or a Democrat. Supreme Court justice candidates are nominated BECAUSE of their affiliations and whether they will rule moving forward based on their political, religious and moral beliefs. They are PROMOTED that way, for crissakes.

If this guy is recused for a donation he made to a political organization, I'd say the worms are going to be uncannable.

Has nothing to do with his party...that is just the spin. Stick with what you know...assuming something qualifies.

In 95% of such circumstances the Judge steps aside without a hearing taking place. Judges in texas are elected - they dont want publicity. That is probably what happens here as well. The counter-spin is pretty easy too...if these charges were any good Earle wouldnt care who the judge is. In fact, he is probably better off with someone in the middle or to the right who will have to avoid any appearance of favortism to DeLay.

That makes a lot of sense, Sun Tzu. I would assume you have a pretty good handle on this case, considering your position and location. You mentioned that this case will go nowhere...do you really think that? I don't know, not privvy to much unspun info, as you surmise. I'm honestly asking your opinion.

It's really incredible to me that so many key players in the Republican party and administration are so publicly in hot water. It's not surprising to me, just hard to believe it all happening at the same time.

Delay, Frist, Cheney, Rove, Libby, etc. It's not like these are little players. Either there is some fire underneath some of the smoke, or the Democratic machine is far more formidable than reported. If this is all orchestrated, as some HOPE, then I would not underestimate the weak liberals moving forward. I'd guess that there is some of both going on, past, present and future.

If all of these guys go down, you can forget the next election. If they don't, game on. Probably will be less than more, I would guess.

In respectful tones, DeGuerin noted that Perkins had donated money to MoveOn.org, a liberal organization that he said has been "selling T-shirts with Mr. DeLay's mug shot on it."

hmm I wonder why they want a new Judge .... :mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

I'm sure they'd much rather have a judge that went on a golf trip or 8 with Delay or donated thousands to the NRA to protect his right to take an AK-47 on one of his hunting trips. Can't blame them for trying.

Good for you Smurph-- NOW you are supporting a little "factual"evidence and fighting fire with fire. As I said months ago--when his time is up and all pardons are in we will compare--and as I stated IF his record is remotely anywhere near Bills I'll climb all over his ass with you. Fair enough.

on Delay -This case is getting is looking more like a vendetta the farther it goes along. I am not saying he isn't guilty of something but the case as I've seen it has no merit. Not saying it for partisan reasons and I really have never been fan of Delay-but hate judges who abuse their power-- to the nth degree--especially one trying to shoot movie on issue to boot.
