what happens when a college game goes to OT and a team scores a defensive TD on a INT, fumble return or blocked kick return?
1 do the points count or is only offensive points
2 can a team win by more than 8 points in OT

have never actually seen it happen so not sure of the rule. thanks for answers

1. I'm pretty sure the defense can score and if they do obviously, game over.
2. The most points you can win by is 8, no more.

The most points a team can win by in college overtime is 14. They can score a TD get the two point conversion and then score six on a defensive play but will not get the opportunity to kick the extra point. Hope this helps.

I never thought about that Rob. I guess you could win by 14 but why not just go down wherever the turnover occurs.

Most of the times I have seen the chance of this

happening the defensive team usually goes down

or runs out of bounds, BUT I have seen it happen

one time. Maybe someone on here can recall this

because I can not. It was probably about ten

years ago or so. I had a team plus 12 (I think)

and it happened to me. I will see if I can find

what game it was, but I do recall losing a game

like that one time.

I won a bet about eight years ago with one of those west coast matchups....think it was UCLA and somebody....

I had the favorite at around -11 and gave up on it when it went OT....

My team scored first and then on the other teams possession took a fumble back for a TD and a 13 point win.... :)

Yeah, I've seen it happen at least once. Might have been the same game b/c the chances of it happening are extremely low.
For it to happen, the defense usually just has to interecpt it in stide and when you've got 80-90 yards of green grass in front of you...who's going to pass that up. Worst thing that happens is you get caught from behind.
If its not a gimme, most guys usually (and should) just go down.

The game in question wast in 1996.
A good AZ st team was about 11 pt fave to USC

In OT Az scored to go up 42-35 after their 1st poss.
Then returned USC pass int for TD to win and cover 48-35

How incredible was that and I dont think its happened again??

So. Cal
it was the first fking year of ot and it was usc at asu...1996...sc was getting 11 (or so)....asu scored first up 7...rob johnson had 4th down and decided to pull a ken stabler holy roller while getting on 4th down......clearly a pass, but the fixed refs ruled a fumble.....the defender grabbled the rolling ball around the 5 yard line and ran the ball back for a td....however thinking it was a pass both teams were on the field, coaches going to congratulate each other and the defender was basically walking into to the opposite endzone .....TOUCHDOWN and the cover....

total crock of shit.

of course i had sc and thought there was no way i could lose.....havent seen anybody else pull the same move before..although a few years ago i think wisconsin kicked a fg then blocked a fg and ran it back...not sure if they scored or were chased down at the 3 and not sure if it would have coverered the spread anyway

I had USC (+12.5) against UCLA back several years ago. I BELIEVE it was the firt year of OT in collage football. UCLA scored on the first possesion, then ran back a PICK 6 for a TD to win by 13 in OT!

TALKING ABOUT BEING PISSED!

That was my wost loss ever. thought I had it in the BANK!
