Looks like someone around here is going to have to back down from all their praise of Mr. Sagarin as this week he now has Texas #1 and USC #2. In fact his "Predictor" which we have been told incessantly is the important consideration, has Texas as 2 point favorite on a neutral field.

The Pac-10 is ranked better than the Big 12 though. I have read just how bad the Big 12 is. So I was shocked to see that the Pac 10 is only 0.18 points better. Oddly enough, he has BOTH better than the SEC.

I seem to recall reading here that Sagarin is the best guy in the world on this stuff so I figured I better post the info for you futures players.

Now in all seriousness I have said many times I think Sagarin is a quack and I stand by that. I still tend to think with 6 weeks prep playing at home USC beats Texas. But I do get enjoyment out of the spin around here. Too bad I will be gone the next few days and wont see the trainwreck.

Why would I back down from my praise of Sagarin because he has Texas #1 over USC? I am a big fan of Sagarin. I think he is the best as determining SOS.

Interesting tidbits if you look at it closer.

Sagarin Ratings

#1 Texas 100.90
#2 USC 100.01

Not much difference. Both teams are 7-0 which makes it easy and fair to compare.

*Sagarin has USC SOS #24 and Texas SOS #30. Advantage USC.

*Sagarin has USC beating 2 of his top 10 teams while Texas beating 1 of his top 10 teams. Advantage USC.

*Sagarin has Texas beating 4 top 30 teams while USC beating 3 top 30 teams. Advantage Texas.

*USC is #1 in Elo Chess in which BCS uses and Texas #2. Advantage USC.

*Texas is #1 in PREDICTOR while USC is #2. Advantage Texas.

Now Sagarin has Texas above USC in his RATINGS and I use those vs Elo and Predictor. His RATINGS combine both elo and predictor. I suppose Texas edged USC out because of the disparity in the Predictor.

But if you look at all 5 criteria?s above, USC has advantage in 3/5.

If both USC and Texas win out, Sagarin will have USC #1. USC still has to play Fresno St., @CAL, and UCLA. :scared

My personal rankings. If USC didn't play 5 of their first 7 games on the road :scared , I too would put Texas #1 if I based my rankings only on what both teams have done THIS YEAR!

you guys can save yourself a lot of time typing and arguing over nothing. Barring a miraculous UCLA victory later on, they are both gonna play each other in the rose bowl so it doesn't really matter who is 1 or 2. Some early lines have Texas +6.5 over USC.

USC -5 @ 5 Dimes is a gift over Texas. I'd take them at -10 over Texas.
