Explanation needed

Stuck in a hotel room, I get a chance to read more garbage than my normal life allows. So I came across the NFL Power Rankings on MSN.com.

Can anyone explain how the 5-2 Falcons are ranked 18th, and that is behind:

Bears, 3-3
Raiders, 2-4
Dolphins, 2-4

This is the NFL. There are not very many cupcake wins.

This makes zero sense to me.

With power rankings this accurate, I predict that the NFL will be dropping the Super Bowl and adopting a BCS-esque system any year now.

They are third in the ESPN rankings. Go figure.

its probably a ranking system based on strength of schedule. it is a joke, as they are clearly better than the 3 teams you mentioned, but if you want reasoning similar to ncaa rankings, its probably because the falcons haven't beaten anyone significant except philly.

minnesota 2-4
new orleans 2-5
jets 2-5

not agreeing with it, but that's probably their reasoning.
