"There is certainly no guarantee that they will remain an ally. The very nature of their religion says they will evenually be the enemy - no matter how democratic the process is along the way."

Exactly. We helped Iraq out when they were fighting Iran, and then years later we had to go back and clean their clock when they turned rogue and invaded Kuwait...nice move there....Maybe we should give everyone over there a rifle, afterall, they'll never get pointed at us.... :mj07:

The religious factor in all this cannot be overlooked, and we will be helping out, building another country waiting for a dictator to take the reins and turn enemy again....this $hit happens all the time in these backwoods countries....isn't any different than the mafia and the eternal struggles for power within.....mark my words, we'll be back over there fighting those backwoods primitive religious fanatics, regardless how strong a democracy you think you can set up, Islam will utterly shred it in no time.

As far as all this patriotism towards our efforts in fighting other countrys wars on this planet....however well meaning it all is, it's totally irresponsible of our government to be fighting wars in Vietnam and Korea and exposing our soldiers to death and disfigurement and taxing our population for the cost of wars not fought out of self-defense.

However well meaning doesn't give our government the right to run all over the globe playing cop, and nobody died and made us god and caretaker of the planet.

Yep North Vietnam certainly liked your thinking--and what would N Korea and Germany have given to have more like you back then--and you can bet the terrorist sure hope you -NYT and others can pull it off like you did in Nam---

It's one thing to avoid confrontation or war buts once your committed--its an entirely diff picture.

Hmm do you ever wonder if maybe your not on the wrong side?

Stop trying to compare Iraq with any of the World Wars there is nothing factual in comparison. Iraq was started by a incompetent regime with false information and with no actual strategy! Your still trying to link Iraq to terrorism, but yet there is no documented evidence that any of the terrorists that have attacked the US or any other countries hailed from Iraq until we went into the country and created a terrorist training grounds. I think your more in tune when comparing Iraq to Vietnam but even that may be a slight stretch!

Even Vietnam is a huge stretch. I'll say it once again, this is very similar to the USSR-Afghanistan 'war.' No comparisons to any other war is even in the ballpark.

Kosar thats does have lots of merit to it.
I see we just had the highest month on record for losses in Iraq .
I just don't get what is taking so long to get there own people up and running the show. I wonder if they have enough with balls to do it.

I'm confused DTB, are you now saying I'm an NVA? Try doing some research about these people / culture and you'll see how flawed this Iraq idea has been from the start. I just don't understand people like you who just follow without thinking for yourself. Reminds me of...

"Yep North Vietnam certainly liked your thinking..."

So tell me, what right does the government have to intrude upon other countries civil wars and use the American taxpayer money to fund participation in such a war, and conscript the youth to fighting that war via a draft?

Vietnam didn't attack us, our actions in Vietnam were unjustified and plain illegal, same as Korea....

Just because its the government doesn't give them a blank check to do whatever they want and ignore the cost of resources and people. The government has a responsibility to the taxpayers....of the people, by the people, and for the people doesn't mean the whole goddamn planet.

If people felt so right about our involvement in Vietnam and Korea, they should have sold thier houses and moved over there and used the money to buy the weapons to fight those wars and put their own lives on the line for some other country.....our government had no right to be over there and it had no right to force our youth to fight and die over there...

Vietnam and Korea are simply plain examples of gross negligent irresponsibility by our government, overstepping its power granted by the public, abusing sovereign borders and totally egregious wastefullness of resources...

Where were the Koreans and Vietnamese back in the 1860's when we were fighting our civil war?

They were living in their own country and minding their own fvcking business, that's where they were.

And a hundred years later we should have been home minding our own fvcking business.

Plain and simple.
