Man, I understand not covering, but are you guys just ranting, or do you really believe they used bad strategy?
My roommate had the OVER last night. It got down to 3rd and Goal and I was pretty much screaming to Ohio, just stop the run. They did.
I told him, sorry but your not getting a field goal here. He said, I know, I'm just hoping they get a touchdown on 4th down.
I was worried about play-action and just hoping they would run and not get in. (TD would have killed both 2nd H bets).
You'd have to be an idiot to kick a field goal in that situation. Up by 9 points. A bad snap or block could lead to a quick score and then you have an on-side kick to deal with.
If you kick it and go up by 12, then you have to kickoff and your still only up by less than 2 TD's.
You don't win a game for 59 minutes and then take chances.
As for the "safety"...there is something called forward progress. The guy caught it at the 3 and was hit instantly. Pretty bad idea by Ohio and followed up by another bad idea on the flea flicker. But definitely not a safety.
I know losses are tough. But these last 2 nights have seemed like more than just ranting. Toledo finished the game perfectly. They probably would have won no matter what they did, but they put themselves in a position where if they didn't score, they leave Ohio 99 yards away and down 2 possessions. They didn't need to risk a field goal for very little gain.
