Love this one:

Florida +4 over Syracuse BIG

First big play of the year comes at the perfect time. . . Gators looked good against Wake Forest but everyone is still remembering how Cuse destroyed Tech which is why the line is so high.

For those on Cuse I am pretty sure they are forgetting this key point:

Tech simply shot the ball horrible allowing the 2-3 zone to work to perfection. If Florida shoots the ball well, the zone will be a little more spread out to cover the Gator shooters. This zone worked well against Tech but I do not believe it will have the same result against this Gator team.

Also, this is the same Orangemen team that only beat Cornell by 5! Tech simply had a horrible night but we can take advantage of the points given that most squares will be on Cuse.

Disagree completely. Call me a square or joe public because I am. Syracuse/Cornell game meant nothing. That shows the flaw in your reasoning. Syracuse could care less about playing Cornell. Preseason tournaments are another story. Florida does not have the experienced players to beat the zone. Tech is not the team that sucks it is Wake Forest. That guy Brum is awful and they have no point guard and a horrible defense. Roberts and Nichols will each have very nice games. Good luck either way and I respect your capping very much but feel Syracuse wins by 8 or 10.

I don't care whether the game meant a lot to them or not! The fact that Cornell lost by only 5 is questionable under any circumstances IMO. We see this every year where a team will blow another away by 30+ points when it was supposed to be a relatively close game. Cuse is simply not that good and Tech is not that bad.

And I already mentioned how to beat the zone. . . it is very simple: shoot the long ball well! This will spread the zone out a little more than it was against Tech and allow the Gators opportunities to get to the basket and create better shots. Gators do not need experience to shoot the ball well! They have the shooters to do it and should have a much higher FG% than Tech.

Tend to agree with Nickel, Knights teams do not handle zones well!

Think Syracuse matched up well with Raiders!

i think you guys both bring up valid points. i agree with dizzayton that you cant make too much of the cornell game. but at the same time, florida does have the shooters to attack a zone defense. that said, syracuse's zone, like temples, is far more aggressive than the rest of the zones played across the country, but gotta think florida can score points in this game. theres no doubt the syracuse rout last night adds a point or point and a half to what should probably be a 2 point spread. if nothing else, this will be a good test for both teams. its early, but one of these teams could be exposed tonight. im looking forward to it. best of luck to both you guys

I guess the reason I mention Cornell is that you can't make too much of either game! You can't say that Cuse is so great just because they beat Tech 30+ but only beat Cornell by 5! Obviously Cuse is not as good as they appeared last night.

And yes, this play of mine is a matter of value this early in the season. Because of last night's rout, we have the opportunity to take a couple extra points that we should not have. That's the name of this game!

It's to early to make any judgments based on what Syracuse did against Tech last night or against Cornell. For those who are backing Syracuse, they did not shoot the ball all that well and other than Mac,who hasn't shot the ball with any consistency, who knows where the points will come from. Syracuse only beat Cornell by 11 last yr, so what. It's to early to go big either way in this one.

I think it depends on how you look at it. . . I usually make the most profit in my account(s) during the early and middle parts of the season. I tend to struggle in February and then pick it back up during the big dance.

Its never to early to catch value. . . it just depends on what you consider to be valuable!

I agree that Syracuse would only be favored by 2 if they barely beat Tech last night. BryanZ you should know better being from Syracuse. This isn't the same old shitty offense they had last year. Even with the departure of Warrick and Pace (I don't even count Forth) they are better. The reason is that the Juniors are given a chance to shine and these kids are good. Then throw in Devendorf and McMAhon or whoever that tall white shooter is and you have a team. This zone is just as formidable as the national championship team. The length of their 2-5 starter is simply outstanding.

Nickel, there is more to beating the zone than hitting 3's. There must be penetration and kicking out as well, which Green could do. I am not yet ready to call Green an all-american at this point. Syracuse will eat the glass all night. Roberts is the best post player on the court period! Considering offensive rebounding and defense.

Last night Syracuse did what Jim likes to do best, and that is get points off the defense. The shots fell but if they face a hot Fla team tonight, will they be able to score in a 1/2 court game ? Syracuse has not been in a game against = talent and had to run the offense this year. To early to tell how the kids will react in a tough one. I had allot of respect and many in Syracuse did not for Dan Forth, a kid that started all 4 years and was on the team that won it all. Syracuse won that Championship with D, Last night they won it with D against a team that had an off night I think.

Dizz, All in Syracuse hope you are right about the zone being just as formidable as the championship season, if that happens the offense wont have to carry this team and I don't think it could very far. SIDE NOTE FOR TONIGHT : Donovan is a smart great coach and I mean great. He learned a bit about this zone from Pitino, who was schooled by the master.
