DTB:

Obviously that litmus test focused more on one specific area of conservative zealots.

gw:

Iran is absolutely filled with right wing zealots. Nobody would deny that. You are simply describing left wing zealots as people who get overly fanatical about the separation of church and state (I think I read something about that in the Constitution. Not sure, though...).

Actually, I will concede that this issue is a tough one. On the one hand, nobody can deny the positive influence of religion in the public realm. It is also a fair point to say that sometimes the minority must be compromised for the greater good (public Christmas displays, Ten Commandments in school, etc.). That said, you step on a slippery slope when you start appropriating the public arena to one specific set of religious beliefs.

Dr. F:

Come on. There was nothing anti-Christian about that criteria. Though admittedly a lot more Christians fit that mold in America than people who believe in other religions, that was a fair litmus test. If you look around the world, you'll find that people of all religions fit those parameters.

You can bet that somebody will try.

Not sure if you caught our 'Nazis were left-wing zealots' discussion, but it was a beauty.

Good to hear from you again Mr. Douglas!

Getting Zarqawi would be a victory for us - no doubt. Unfortunatley, doesn't look like it happened this time. We will eventually get both he and Osama I do believe. BUT we need to be prepared for a whole other line of leaders and bombers. There are well over a billion Muslims, with at least 100 million of them willing to go fairly extreme.

I would look for a whole new generation from places like Iran, Pakistan, and even Indonesia to "hear the call". This thing will not end soon. We need to be prepared for the long haul. That's probably the biggest error in strategy by the administration imo - they did not see the big picture. This is not Grenada - it's not even Afghanistan. It's basically a war we will be fighting the rest of lives at this point.

Don't know about rest of our lives but would say it is war the whole world will be fighting for sometime. I put link up couple years ago on Asian news--rarily does their headlines not reflect Muslims killing someone-somewhere.

The only diff between 1st world trade center attack and the 2nd was they were successful 2nd time around--however approach in aftermath was handled quite differently.Which aproach do you think terrorist preferred?

Honestly - to compare the 2 WTC attacks to each other is a joke, DTB. The casualties and damage are so far from each other that of course the aftermath is going to be completely different. There is no point that can be made for either side with that comparison. If you are trying to imply that a Bush response is more timely, strong, and effective than a Clinton one, then please explain what Bush did with his time after the Cole attack. That was just a couple months before Bush and he had 8 months to do something about it.

Nicks comment got me thinking.
While it is quite easy to define far left liberals--I am trying to think what far right side would consist of.
1st group that would come to mind would be the neo nazi/militia element but since they are against all forms of gov can't see them being on one side are the other.
Could someone give examples of far right poilticians/zealots and their philosophies they find detrimental to society?

The leaders of Islam it self is a great example of far right wingers gone mad .
Osama Bin laden a perfect example of a far right winger . I always get a kick out of the left they always end up defending the biggest right wingers in the world .
An Islamic State is as far right as it gets these days and the left wants to ignore them . You can't find a worse set of womens rights yet the left defends them tooth and nail.
A Liberal that truley understood what their ideals were and truley believed in half the bile they spew should be on the lead tank blowing holes through anything that even looks like the Koran and should be begging the goverment to lay waste to all Islamic states and protesting that our military isnt doing its job because its not overthrowing the Governments of these non secular countries :) But alas their just too stupid to even understand what they stand for :mj07: :mj07:

Ummmm, Iraq was secular and not an Islamic state. It will be an Islamic state now though, thanks to us. WTF is your point? That some of us oppose turning a secular state into one run by radical Islams and calling that a victory?

True, Saul. 400,000 mass graves. 200,000 Kurds gassed to death. Genocide. Fvcking HUGE stockpiles of WMD that were on the way over here any minute. It was the perfect storm and we had no choice but to deliver the country to Islamfascists and terrorist sympathizers. But not before a good old fashioned civil war!

kosar,

If I remember correctly, it was the good ol' Freisz who had that beautiful rant about Hitler being a liberal. Maybe there was another that I missed.

The one I saw went something like:

......Nazi was short for "Nationalist Socialist". See, SOCIALIST. Hitler was a dyed in the wool liberal........

lol- well of course it was Freeze. You wouldn't have had to see it to make an educated guess. A couple others half-heartedly chimed in eventually.

That is correct. They used *Socialist* in their partys name and of course, pinko commies!

I really cannot believe that nobody has tried to say that the governments of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain,Turkey, Yemen, UAE, Libya, Sudan, Rwanda etc... are left wing zealots.
