I need help from my fellow mates in US ! :)

In Canada, after years of debate... We will FINALLY have the possibility to get a satellite radio (starts on air on Jan 1st 2006 i think) with 2 providers fighting for the Canadian market: Sirius and XM. I know channels arent exactly as what you're having right now in US but Sirius is suppose to offer 100 channels while XM will offer 80. Price monthly will be 14.99$ for Sirius and 12.99$ for XM. Because you're enjoying these types of radio broadcast for a couple of years now i wanted to know your opinion on wich one should i get? Is one better than the other (service, signals, audio quality etc.) Are you satisfy with satellite radio?

I plan to get one during holidays but i'm having hard times to choose between these 2... Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I've been listening to XM for awhile and I would recommend it to anyone that is in the market for satellite radio. I've listened to Sirius a few times and talked to some subscribers with Sirius and I just can't see going with it. Like mentioned above, Sirius biggest thing is that they signed Howard Stern and I really don't see that as a selling point. If that is the type of broadcast you are looking for, then you can listen to Opie & Anthony on XM.

Opie and Anthony also replay the old XM commercials with Howard Stern as the announcer. Stern used to praise XM before he got overpaid to push Sirius. :)

stern said something on the radio a week ago that canada will not be offering stern on the sirius channels even though its a pay service. he was tearing into the canadian gov't for not letting people decide if they want to pay to listen to him.

sports wise its up to you ,both have diffrent sports leagues.music wise i like sirius better, for classic or hard rock,80s rock you cant beat it,the xm rock channels that ive heard have way to much diversity,if you see a channel (topic)you like on sirius you would like maybe 6-7 songs in a row,if you want to hear some bonjovi with system of the down on the same channel than xm is for you...it did take me awile to find a good signal with sirius though,i still would recomend it.

I have Sirius for my car and a portable for use on my boat.

Ironically, Direct TV just added XM music stations to their lineup, and it's the first time I had a chance to listen to XM. The XM stations aren't as condensed with the music selections and vary more from the specified format. Sirius is very focused as to genre.

The comedy channels (Rawdog) on Sirius are great and the variety from news to sports exceeds XM.

Not that this would concern you, but most of the programming has an East Coast flavor and it gets old (I'm in Californina) listening to those grating N.Y accents and points of view.....

Now that I've had Sirius for about a year, I couldn't go back to conventional radio....

Good Luck

service, signal and audio quality are identical for both - in fact both units are pretty much identical as well. i have sirius, got it because of the exclusive nfl coverage.

you have to decide what you want to listen to - if it's sports, than sirius is still the better option. XM realized they were lacking in this area, but have struggled to catch up.

siruis has exclusive to NFL and NBA. they also carry NHL, a good number of college foots and hoops (more than XM), they also carry premier league soccer games live - 3-5 games a week. also has numerous sport talk radio shows.

in the NFL they carry every game, and in most cases carry both broadcast - for the home and away team - pretty cool, so i can listen to the broadcast of the team i have coin on :)

XM picked up the exclusive on MLB and golf - (PGA tour network), has some college sports and some hockey, as well as sports talk radio.

with all this being said, visit both website and look at their programming, see what you think best suits your tastes.

whatever you decide, you'll love t.

Thanks for all your help guys!

I'm leaning on Sirius now as it seems it's what's most of you recommended and as i do love NFL and hoops it makes it easier for me to pick! Good to know the signal and quality is the same for both though... Thanks for your help and i'll let you know how it is going in 2 months :talk:
