Too bad this kind of stuff has to happen to him, I have always enjoyed his commentary as well.

It doesn't "have to happen to him", he can leave his crack pipe in his house and do his hits when he gets home. Do you know anyone who takes their bong in the car with them. That is just plain stupid.

ESPN just made the Comment

I like Mike, gave it his all as a Player. Like watching him yell, never looked to him for real analysis.

Good luck Mike

My problem with him as a host is he caught the Ammad Rashaditis. He kisses ass to get the inside scoops and interviews. No way he was objective in his coverage of the TO situation. Just like Ammad (Spelling right?) with Jordan. I think he an asshole, but on the other hand I hate to see anyone struggle with addiction.

Here's the explanation

Here's the explanation

Irvin said he put the pipe in his car because he didn't want it in his house where his children might find it. He said he planned to drive somewhere the next day, like a grocery trash bin, and throw the pipe away but forgot.

So you couldn't break it and throw it into your own Garbage can. By the way, he said it was his friend's who on was out of a rehab center.......didn't know they allowed crack pipes or whatever this was in rehab centers.

DALLAS -- Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin said Sunday night that a drug pipe police found in his car belonged to a longtime friend whom he's trying to help recover from an addiction.

Irvin, an ESPN studio analyst and semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his vehicle during a traffic stop Friday.

Irvin told The Associated Press late Sunday the pipe belonged to a friend of 17 years who left a Houston rehab center and came to Irvin's house in Carrollton for Thanksgiving. Irvin wouldn't reveal his friend's name.

? It's a situation that is not as it seemed. I know the type of demons they have to fight and I am going to help them, because it's the only way I can keep them from getting to my family. ?

ESPN said it has spoken to Irvin, who will still appear on the network Monday as an analyst.

"We've talked to Michael, who explained the situation to us the way he did to the AP, and we will continue to talk with Michael," ESPN spokeman Josh Krulewitz said. "But you can expect him to see him on 'Monday Night Countdown' on Monday evening."

Irvin said he put the pipe in his car because he didn't want it in his house where his children might find it. He said he planned to drive somewhere the next day, like a grocery trash bin, and throw the pipe away but forgot.

"It's a situation that is not as it seemed," said Irvin, whose voice was choked with emotion during the telephone conversation.

"I know the type of demons they have to fight and I am going to help them, because it's the only way I can keep them from getting to my family. I have to clean up my friends because they are around my boys. It's upsetting."

Irvin was arrested on an outstanding warrant for speeding in Irving after being pulled over Friday afternoon for speeding in Plano. Irvin said he thought he had paid the outstanding ticket.

Irvin paid a fine on the speeding ticket and posted bond on the drug paraphernalia possession charge. He was released about an hour after he was pulled over.

Irvin was a member of three Super Bowl championship teams with the Cowboys. Asked how this kind of publicity might affect his chances of induction into the Hall of Fame, Irvin said his helping his friends is more important.

"The whole thing means such a great deal for me, and hopefully one day it will be there," Irvin said. "But my friends and my family mean a little more. I would rather be helping them, even if it hurts that."

In 1996, Irvin pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation, a $10,000 fine and dismissal of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges. Irvin said Sunday he's always been transparent and open about his issues in the past, and now wants to help others through those same problems.

Irvin, a member of three Super Bowl championship teams with the Cowboys and known as "The Playmaker" during his 12-year career with Dallas, retired in July 2000. He has been paired at ESPN with veteran host Chris Berman, Tom Jackson and Steve Young on the main set of Sunday NFL Countdown since 2003.

Irvin holds Cowboys records for catches (750), receiving yards (11,904) and 100-yard games (47), including a team-record seven in a row in 1991.

In September of this year, Irvin and former Cowboys teammates Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith were together added to the Ring of Honor together, a recognition of the players most associated with the Cowboys' last Super Bowl titles.

f'k irvin. he has had enough chances. michael irvin is an idiot, but shannon not so sharp (aka. mush mouth) is worse. irvin lacks intelligence and sharpey lacks any sense of being articulate.

btw, now irvin should have more time to spend with his whore to.

Classic denial. Im sure he will offer to do a piss test for ESPN. Cocaine has a rapid half life and will be out of his system very very quick. If he is telling the truth all he has to do is offer a hair sample. Not only can it tell what drugs he has ingested, but when... Classic denial. Who would let someone ride in their car with a friggin crackpipe, other than another crackhead.

One thing about him he is a snazzy dresser. I tried to buy a puple shirt, puple tie, and a purple suit with the sports jacket that goes past my knees at my taylor's. He didnt have any. But I found one at a quaint little store in the ghetto. It came with matching purple patent leather shoes for $99 all together. I bought two. One to shit on, and one to cover it up....

anyone believing one syllable of that has never been around an addict ... this is BS 101 from some one 'hiding' ... GL on his addiction, I never liked him as analyst, but i wish him the best to beat and own up to his obvious, juvenile lies ...

you have got to be kidding. Irvin has no clue of what he is saying half the time, he is just a contrarian with no facts, just ask coach Ditka, he can't stand the guy. Hopefully, we wont be seeing much of Irvin anymore.

It's still a shame in a so called free country you can get arrested for not actually doing drugs, but having something that could be used to do drugs... drug paraphernalia as a crime is bush league... :mj10:

that being said, he is awful on TV

HELL
To me, it looked like he was high as a kite every Sunday. They (ESPN) had to know when all he does is make a comment and then giggle. I can't believe Dikta hasn't grabbed him yet after they do their little skit.

He made that comment yesterday about how athletes will now be very cautious about opening there mouth after the TO ruling...um, shut the fu-k up, take your millions, and play ball.

The most puzzling part of this is why would Irvin's friend (who supposedly was spending Thanksgiving over Michaels house) be carrying a pipe if he just got out of a rehab house??

This makes a much sense as some of the things that Irvin has said on the air at ESPN.
