PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A man arrested for running onto the field during the Philadelphia Eagles' game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday told police he was spreading his late mother's ashes.

Christopher Noteboom, of Tempe, Ariz., ran onto the field holding a plastic bag, leaving a cloud of fine powder behind.

As he reached the 30-yard line, he dropped to his knees, made the sign of the cross and laid down on his stomach. Security personnel reached him moments later and he offered no resistance as he was escorted from the field.
The 33-year-old Noteboom, a native of Doylestown, said his mother died of emphysema in January 2005, shortly before the Eagles' Super Bowl appearance.

"She never cared for any other team except the Eagles," Noteboom told WPVI-TV after he was released from custody Monday. "I know that the last handful of ashes I had are laying on the field, and will never be taken away. She'll always be part of Lincoln Financial Field and of the Eagles."

Noteboom, a bar owner in Arizona, was charged with defiant trespass. He has a hearing scheduled for Dec. 27.

"It's bizarre, but we have a zero tolerance for people who run on the field," Police Inspector William Colarulo said. "We especially have a zero tolerance for people who run onto the field and dump an unknown substance in a stadium full of people."

Eagles spokeswoman Bonnie Grant said the team has declined requests to spread ashes on the field.

Was at the game, and asked those around me what the motivation is to run on the field during a game and get arrested. For this case, I now know.

I actually never could think of a good reason for running on the field until now. I give the guy credit for doing that for his mom :mj14:

Couple Chicago sports writers were doing the usual sports talk show here and went into a couple stories about people dumping ashes onto our fields. As you can imagine, everyone wants to become fertilizer for the North Side ball club. They went into groundskeepers explaining how detrimental the stuff really is to the turf itself. It burns the crap out of it and kills the field (which wouldn't be a bad thing for the beer garden :s4: ).

Another story was about a lady who dumped the container of ashes over the rail at a sporting event here. All over a working cameraman and his equipment.

i thought it was kinda cool, if his mom would have really wanted that, but someone brought something into play, what if that would have been a terrorist, who would have been able to sneak in something horrible? some air born type. scary stuff.

If it was really a tribute, he should had done it without the 40K+ in the stands. This guy did it for attention and he deserves to be charged with every part of the law. :cursin:

It's a security issue. Jackarses like this will make sports teams build walls and moats like the South Americans. I don't want boundries that will keep the fans further from the game. :cursin:
