So. Cal
why?

are they as good as texas or sc?

NO

are they significantly better than any of those other teams?

NO

they may be slightly better than a few teams i listed (miami-vt) and slighyly worse than a few (psu-osu-nd) and about even with others (lsu-uga-oregon)

why is this logic so offensive???

i forgot....

the sec is a vastly superior conference, hands down, i keep forgetting!

it should be auburn vs georgia in the bcs title game.........my mistake for actually watching these teams and formulating my own evaluations.

I don't think it's your logic that's so offensive gjn, it's just the fact that it always comes from you. It seems like you go out of your way to dog Auburn. It's all good though. If people hate you, it means you're winning a lot of football games. Ask Texas or USC.

it comes from me becaue all i hear is bs crying and whining from sec fans.....and their steadfast demand that their conf is vastly superior in football....hands down, end of story, no debate.

as far as hating auburn.....i dont hate auburn, i've made alot of money off them this year......other than that, they are irrelevant to me.......although i do find it comical that most auburn backers were ready to run tuberville out of town 24 months ago.

Look, we fire coaches down here. We can't help ourselves ok? We can't fire players, so we fire coaches. It's just a way of life.

But we love Tommy, unless he starts losing.

I actually think your logic is not that far off. I don't necessarily agree that Texas and USC are better than the others on that list just by virtue of them both being undefeated.

Even you can admit that this season, playing in the ACC, SEC, or Big 10 was a much tougher road than the Big 12 or Pac-10.

But even if you can't, let me ask you this: Why is every SEC team except Alabama favored in their different bowl match-ups if they are the same or worse than other conferences?

Not trying to be confrontational, i just want to hear your theory.

Also, since this is a handicapping thread and you admittedly have taken Auburn pretty much all year like i have, do you like them -10.5 in this game?

A Kirk Herbstreit signature??? I like this one better, in reference to Maryland TE Vernon Davis: "He could get into male modeling after his football career. He has some physique". :mj03:

gjn posted that Auburn might be playing as well as anyone not named Texas or USC.

The 5-6 weeks off sometimes becomes the great equalizer. Crazy sh*t happens over holiday break ...Teams that were playing well at the end of the year come at flat. In reality how thrilled is Auburn to be playing Wisky, I'm sure they had higher goals.

A note about Alvarez's last game. If memory serves Barry has an excellent spread record in bowl games. One exception I can remember...a few years back we got waxed by a team I know you guys love...the Georgia bulldogs.

rrc, I see your point and it does look like there are some dangerous things out there like the public being all over Auburn, Alvarez's last game, one month layoff, double-digit spread with a hook, etc.

Obviously we were looking to Ohio St., but I can assure you that if Wisky pulls off the upset, (which could happen), you will not hear me use the fact that Auburn "just couldn't get up" for this one. That's the lamest excuse ever!!! Remember Cal last year?

I tend to think Auburn will be ready for this game and they will want to show everyone that they have gotten better, and that they will be a legit team next year as well. I don't think there will be any letdown. Wisconsin is a good football team, and i think they have auburn's full respect.

wow...the sec is favored in every bowl game they are playing in?????

hey

so is the pac-10

who cares?

as far as stronger conf this year....i think it's clear that the big-12 was the worst of the 5 bcs conf (sorry big east your not really a bcs conf any longer)....after that they were all fairly close, not one conf stood out as being vastly superior....in fact i thought the sec was a bit down this year without a dominant team, and the acc kind of underacheived with fsu-va tech-miami all being a bit weak in their own ways, the big 10 may have been the most consistant and the pac-10 had one dominant team and 2 pretty good teams and the rest were average.

as for the auburn bowl game.....i'll likely play auburn again...why stop now....but like someone else said (and it's the biggest joke in college football)....the layoff between the last games and the bowl games are 5-6 weeks in some cases......teams can completely lose their edge and motivation is a huge factor in bowl games....will auburn be as motivated as wisc??????? who knows....they are definetely more talented......im not sure if auburn was actually thinking they were going to play ohio state in a bcs bowl game????....from here it was a no brainer that they were going to the citrus bowl vs a big 10 team other than osu/psu

im in the same boat, not taking the badgers, but still hope they win. Just don't see it. if you give Alvarez a month you never know. just think we overachieved this year, hate to see how we would have ended up w/out calhoun. gl

In Alvarez's first 8 bowl games he was:

7-1 straight up and ats

In his last 2:

Loss to Auburn 28-14
Loss to Ga 24-21 (may have covered though)

The bad loss to Ga that I mentioned earlier was WAYYY back in 1997...seems like only yesterday.

Auburn covers 10 easily!! Wisc couldnt stop my high school and Auburn will stop them easily!! One dimensional slow big ten offense!! Perfect game to show how superior SEC is than big ten!

PAC-10 Sucks!!!

One good team that coasts thru the conference and has a couple of decent opponents!!

I'll give you this.... the ND game was a classic, but USC, Leinart and Bush are still cheaters!!! :thefinger

PAC-10 ----> :s4:

auburn by 10 that seems a bit out on the limb for me before the tigers last 3 games. it seems like they finally are executing on offense something that was absent earlier in the season and as for their defense no questions asked. :nono: the game will be decided by the running game of calhoun :mj23: and his offensive line if they are able to execute than i feel that they will be able to keep this game close. but that will be no easy task. but if auburn comes out and commits to the run than it will be a :nutkick kick ass affair. i ill bet the kitchen sink they will put seven in the box to plug up the run. no gimmes for calhoun. auburn 34 wisconsin 17

Stocco is not totally inept....

For the yr:

Stocco 182-301 19 td...9 int...8.7 yds/att.
148.4 rating

Cox 162-273 14 td...7 int...8 yds/att..
138.4 rating

Team rushing...

Auburn 202.73yd/game 28 tds

Wisky 161.58yd/game 30 tds

Herin lies the problem for Wisconsin..Team Def

Auburn 294yd/game ...17 tds

Wisky 432yd/game....37 tds...ouch

Two very equal offenses, One vastly superior defense

If the badgers cannot stop Auburn OR totally control the time of possession thus keeping the ball away from Auburn we are looking at a blowout.

If they are able to accomplish one or the other we'll have a game. glta
