was having problems with this ####en computer. Went and bought the two programs listed. What the hell am I doing wrong as the computer is in a worst state now. It shuts down by itself, freezes etc. I have to keep rebooting it and it oh so slow. Registry mechanic found 72 problems and fixed them all but in the mean time the computer is worst than before. I don't think Diskkeeper is doing any damage. I have it set to defragment every night at 12. Called my internet server and they assured me everything is well on their end. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.....thanks

Registry Mechanic is dangerous because it doesnt know of all the different programs/keys and windows registry modifications whcih can be done.

Defragmenting every night is a waste of time and is really helping you kill your hard drive cause of all the work its making it do. Defragmenting by windows is fine and it will tell you IF you have to defrag.

Best thing to do is backup your data, format your drive and reload Windows. I seem to have to do it every 1-2 years to all my PCs to make them run better. Just a fact about Microsoft windows.. It gets messed up with all the different applications you install/uninstall and thru time...

Good luck.. but I say format and start over! You'll be happy with the results even though it is a lot of work to reload all your apps and backup your data.

Just another reason to get a Mac.

JD, might have one solution for ya that I did last week. My puter was doing the same thing and I ran everything I could to get it working better, to no avail. Do this.

Right click on the "start" in the bottom left hand corner, left click on "explore". Scroll down to "Temp" and highlight it, then delete everything in there. There is crap in there that my spyware remover didn't get and when I deleted temp internet files under the Tools tab at the top, it still remained here. It immediately made my computer work better. This also has the KMA seal of approval.

Good Luck

Captain Crunch....thanks, went there and the only thing I see with temp in it is something listed WUTemp. Being a computer dummy I'm afraid to click on that for the fear of really screwing things up. Will wait for the go ahead.....really appreciate it the help. Thanks

KMA told me a while back that it is OK to delete everything in there. I do it on a fairly regular basis and I know I have even deleted the one you listed and it has never done anything bad to my computer. I somehow end up with something like "control." and I delete it everytime with no problems.

Good Luck
