Does Vince Young have a sore arm?

Vince Young would be pretty STUPID to publicly guarantee a victory over USC if he had a sore arm. I doubt that rumor is true.

Last night we had to watch Young labor through the english language. What got me most is that he helps kids stay away from gangs. That is great and glad to see that. He got his life turned around (per the story told tonight) and I want to cheer for him. But then Young describes his teammates as "gangsta" as though thats a good thing. :banghead:

Young repeatedly keeps putting his foot in his mouth. Earlier in the week he was lobbying for the Heisman. Refers to his teammates as "gangstas." Now has a Guarantee Rose Bowl Win pending.

If I were VY, I suppose I would fantasize too!
And why not? A chance to bring down a dynasty in SC, to avenge his Heisman loss to Bush, whatever else motivates him, but unfortunately, this is reality. 41-17 SC! :violin:

Young is not alone. These Texas players are talking more trash than OU did last year. If there was ANY chance USC players would take Texas lightly, it is gone now. When I refer to taking Texas lightly, I mean practices. 3 weeks of practices and this gives USC more motivation to practice harder. Both teams on gameday will be ready but practices are different. It is just stupid to talk smack against an opponent equal in talent or better.

Leinart and Bush, by contrast, have handled themselves with unbelievable class all week, all season, and throughout their SC careers. It's so great to have guys like this to root for in Cardinal & Gold!

Scott4USC,

Did VY really publicly guarantee a win over SC?!?! I haven't been paying attention to the media the last week or so, so I didn't hear or read about that. But... wow, I thought he was smarter than that. Oh well, I'm not complaining. That makes feel even better about my SC bet and I'll probably drop even more on them now. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Fromt he NY Post.......

Young was asked if he was ready to step into Namath's shoes and guarantee a win.
"Right now, yeah, I'm very confident about it," he said. "They [the Trojans] come in the game off a high winning streak, and everybody's blowing them up, you know, and they think we're the underdogs and we're not going to come to play. I know that we are. We're going to come to show them the Texas football team."

The night before the paper was released, Leinart was already asked about Youngs guarantee etc. I think Leinart said if that gets him motivated, great. Only thing I'll guarantee is we will come ready to play. So USC players all know about it. USC is already in Texas players heads. Damage is done!

wow.
i'm sure this will somehow turn into a debate of semantics, but thats the furthest thing from a guarantee that you'll see.

Vince was baited to answer in this way by the way the question was phrased. This is certainly not as brazen a bost as say Chad Johnson of the Bengals. :sadwave:

I agree Young didn't directly guarantee the victory but the damage is done. That is what is important. All the USC players have been told Young guaranteed a victory over USC. I bet most don't even read the article. Leinart and Bush (the 2 leaders) heard it from reporters the night before the article was released. Young did answer the question yes. Young really did guarantee a victory. If Young was smart, he would have said I guarantee we will show up ready to play. (which is what Leinart said) Obviously these Texas players are poorly coached on how to handle the media. I wonder if this is any indication on how prepared they will be playing in the biggest game of their lives.

Isn't the point not to fire up your opponent? USC already is going to be fired up for the game. BUT practices are what is important. Especially for a bowl game 3 weeks away. After this Young guarantee and all these Texas players talking smack, I would think it makes USC even more focused in practice. Why do that? You don't see USC players talking smack and they are the ones who should.

OU talked smack prior to playing USC. Nothing but respect from USC towards OU. Texas talking more smack than OU about USC. Nothing but respect from USC for Texas. The game is setting up just like last year in so many ways. :scared

Gimme a break. How stupid. USC isnt already motivated? And somehoe I am guessing if he didnt affirmatively state they would win there would be some bs about how he isnt confident enough. No matter how you slice it, it is absurd, only surpassed by the absurdity of anyone trying to make anything of it.

did anyone hear texas fans (not here, but in public) stating unequivocably before the heisman show that Vince would win the trophy when asked on camera?--it was kinda amusing, not a book i use was posting odds the final week (anyone see odds?) ... that was Goldwater hope ...

Vince Young did not say "I have an announcement, I am going to guarantee a Texas victory over USC on Jan. 4th."

When Young was asked if he would guarantee a victory, he said "yes."

He basically guaranteed a victory by answering the question.

But the point is the damage is done. I don't think it makes a difference on gameday because both teams will be amped up. But I think there is a very high probability this makes USC more focused in practices and their preparation for Texas. Both Bush and Leinart were told from reporters about Young's guarantee the night before the article was published. The entire team knows about it and I doubt many players even try and read the article. So damage is done and this can only hurt Texas and help USC.

VY is a competitor. He hates to lose. But i think he has more on his mind than the Nat'l Championship.

I think he's concerned with finding the right agent for the 2006 NFL Draft.

VY is goin' pro...

damn.
