In USA each state has its own laws as to when a minor reaches the age of majority. I don't know, but up there each province may also have their own laws. So I am no help there.

In my state, children for child support purposes reach the age of majority on their 19th birthday. However, you still have to petition the court in order to have the support payments stop.

This comes from personal experience.

I practice family law in Michigan. Although each state is different, in Michigan child support stops when the child turns 18 and has graduated high school, or at 18 if the child has dropped out of school. The child support can never continue past age 19 1/2 if the child is still going to school. The child support recipient must notify the court if the child is in school past his/her 18th birthday for child support to continue. The child can do what they want for parenting time (visitation) when the child support stops. However, the courts give great weight to what a child of this age wants. Thus, if your brother files a motion to increase parenting time (visitation), and his child clearly tells the court he wants to see his dad more, the court would likely listen and give your brother more time. Hope this helps.
