Scouting Harvard

The Crimson have won three-straight games to improve to 8-3 on the season. The latest came Tuesday at home against Colgate by a count of 68-59. It marked the sixth time this season that Harvard has held a team under 60 points. The Crimson also led at the half bringing its record to 8-0 when accomplishing that.

Harvard, which led by 11 on three separate occasions in the opening half, found themselves trailing six points, 53-47 with just under seven minutes to play after Colgate rattled off a 14-3 run. Harvard answered with a 13-0 run of its own to win going away.

Harvard attempted a season-high 39 free throws in the game, making 30 including 23 along in the second half as three Raiders fouled out.

Drew Housman, the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week, had a career-high 21 points in the win on the strength of 12-for-14 shooting form the free throw line.

Matt Stehle, the Ivy League's Player of the Week, had 13 points (9-10 FT) and 10 rebounds. He leads the team in both points (15.5), and rebounds (8.8) while contributing 2.4 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game.

Michael Beal has been on of the league's top shooters with a 54.4 percent mark form the floor while contributing 6.6 rebounds per game.

Housman leads the team and is second in the Ivy League in steals with 23 and averages 11.9 points with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (34-32).

Jim Goffredo ranks among the top Ivy players in several categories and is averaging 14.2 points.

Brian Darcy has filled in for Cusworth for the past five games in the low post, and made 2-of-3 shots versus Colgate.

Zach Martin is the top threat off the bench and is a 36 percent 3-point shooter. Ko Yada (.333 3-PT Pct.), Evan Harris (3.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg), and Brad Unger (2.2 ppg, .500 3-PT Pct.) will also come off the bench.

Scouting Boston College

The Eagles are looking to put together a string of victories before resuming ACC play on January 8. Following the game versus Harvard, BC plays A-10 members Duquesne, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

BC will look to take advantage of Harvard's size without Brian Cusworth in action by starting four players who stand at least 6 foot 6 with their smallest player checking in at 6 foot 4.

The Eagles have played big most of the year and have punished opposing teams inside by shooting nearly 55 percent inside of the 3-point line. The Eagles have also found success at the free throw line enabling the team to continue pounding the ball inside. BC shoots exactly 70 percent from the charity stripe as a team.

BC has gotten points inside by virtue of its rebounding ability. The Eagles average 13.6 offensive rebounds per game, a mark that represents 40 percent of its missed shots.

The only knock on the team has been its outside shooting capability. BC checks into Thursday's game as a 32.2 percent long range shooting team. Jared Dudley, the team's top scorer at 18.7 ppg has made just 3-of-18 attempts from long range while point guard Louis Hinnant has also struggled with a 28 percent mark (7-25).

Sean Marshall is the top distance shooter at nearly 42 percent (13-31) while fellow starter John Oates (7-17, .412) and top reserve Tyrese Rice (18-46, .391) follow suit.

Dudley and Craig Smith lead the team in almost every category. Dudley pulls down 8.0 rebounds per game in addition to his nearly 19 points of offense while Smith pulls down 8.3 rebounds to go with 15.8 ppg.

Smith, who also leads the team in blocked shots (11) and steals (14), is a 54 percent shooter form the floor, which leads the Eagles while Dudley has a 51 percent success rate.

Marshall and Rice also average double figures to BC with Marshall scoring 15.1 ppg and Rice 10.7 off the bench.

Williams cleared to play for BC tonight

Sean Williams is good to go.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore, who was cleared to return to campus earlier this week by a Brighton Court judge, has officially been cleared by the university to rejoin the Boston College basketball team and could see limited action tonight at home against Harvard.

Williams was suspended by the university and the team after being arrested on marijuana possession and underage drinking on May 20. The Texas native took classes for the fall semester at the University of Houston.

Williams averaged 4.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks last season. He was suspended twice for off-court issues as a freshman and sat out three games.
