I have a hard time understanding why there are unemployed people. Yes this is a bit rhetorical, but nonetheless I will proceed.

I offer very good paying jobs, 50k+/year, to unskilled labor but cannot find enough people to fill the jobs. Granted the work is hard but I can't imagine if I had a family, or myself, to feed that I wouldn't jump at the opportunity.

Quite a few of the new hires do not last. I guess they have better opportunities.

Can all of you experts shed some light on this for me.

Thanks.

You didn't describe the job. That would help in answering your question.

I had that UPS job one summer also. It was a workout every day. Another fun I job I had was in a Seven-Up factory. When we did the 16 oz bottles the machine would do one case every 5 seconds. When it was your turn to be at the end of the line you had grab the case and put it on a pallet and when the pallet full, stacked 5 high I think, the fork lift guy would take it away. Then youy had to grab another pallet to replace the one the fork lift guy took. All the while the cases kept coming so you would then have to catch up. We switched spots on the line every 30 minutes.

homedog -- the reason is that you are a greedy son of a bitch that owns his own business and does what he can to improve your life. You do realize that you are going straight to hell for the decisions that you have made, correct?

You should really take a look at your life and see how you can just GIVE $50K to several less fortunate than you.

just in case it wasn't obvious: this post was completely sarcastic.

I am going to start a thread for the worst job ever had after Stevie and gw's post.

I'm in the same boat Homedog.

The best part of the situation, is that 90% of those I come across smoke at least a few packs a day AND almost always have kids.

The Man keeping down nice people that need a job.

The last guy I had last Friday night called a few hours before his 1st day saying he wasn't going to be able to make it. He had 3/4 days to let me know he wasn't going to be able to work.

I've gotten to the point that I call them "victims". I even tell those I come across my next "victim" is suppose to start tomorrow or this is my next "victim" here.

These people cover ALL races/ages/sexes/skills/current employment

Way too much free money out there. No need to really work.

I have to agree with GW, as a college student I also worked at UPS and loading the trucks was a beast especially at Christmas time. More than likely you have already answered your own question as to why you cannot fill these job slots because the work is HARD! I have a friend that has the same problem as he owns some type of business where they grind and refinish rocks that are then used in landscaping and he pays around 18 bucks an hour to guys just starting out, but he cannot get anyone to stay because of the lifting. He has even tried to use temporary staffing agencies and it was a disaster since they would send him drunks that would pass out in the heat after working 3 or 4 hours.

The jobs are in south LA. They are plentiful for those who want to work.

In the last 1-1/2 - 2 years we have started a military recruitement proram. I was very excited to hear of this.

The military produces quality indiivduals with respect, discipline, and work ethic. That is what my perception was anyway.

What we found out was that the military produced the same type of individuals we got off the street.

Disappointing to say the least.
