There is a lot at work for this game, and let me start with the total. Did you know that since 1993, no NFL playoff game that was considered a tossup, meaning the line was pk to 2.5, has ever gone OVER the total. This angle has been 11-0-1 ATS since 1993!!! That includes yesterday's WASH/TB game. There is a philosophy I have regarding this occurance. When you have a game that is a tossup, each side plays conservatively, sits back trying to force a mistake, and the game becomes a field position game. So I will be backing the total UNDER 44 (BOWMAN) for this and other reasons.
Onto the game. The Giants have been playing well at home all year, and since Wellington Marra passed away, even better, protecting his house! Let's go back to that game, because it gave us some valuable incites, to today's game. The WASHINGTON game that followed Marra's death was vs the SKINS, and the Giants played with intensity, passion, and emotion. They won the game 36-0 and were never contested. So we have seen the GIANTS when they play with their utmost intensity. This is the playoffs, so I would expect to see that same passion today. Carolina has trouble running the ball, and trouble blocking oppt's defensive ends if they are good, and the Giants are good. That in the past, has forced pressure on the QB, and an unsuccessful offense. If they can't get efficient blocking on the outside, they will get nothing going offensively, and thus, another reason for the UNDER, because they won't! The Giants are 8-1 this year at home (9 games because No was moved to NY). Since Marra's death, covering the last 5 at home, noone has gotten over 17. Yes, MINNESOTA scored 24, but not a single point was allowed by the defense!!!...another reason for the under as the numbers are skewed. That means in last 5 they have yielded 8.8ppg @ home. Now take into account the intensity of that REDSKIN game, and you know what the G-MEN are capable of playing with high octane intensity. If you go back to preseason they are 10-1 in this building this year.
