I see a lot of talk about how good the Pats D has been over the last 2 months...But look who they've played...

Jax...hobbled at both RB and QB
Miami, lost.
Jets, rubbish.
TB, terrible offense, esp. on the road.
Buff, rubbish.
@ KC, lost.
NO, rubbish.

Throughout the season they have played 5 teams who av. more than 4.0 yards a carry;
lost @ home to SD 17-41!...gave up 183/40 on the ground.
beat Atl 31-28 BUT...no Vick. (which totally negates their running stats anyway...although they still allowed 116/26)
lost @ Denver 20-28...were 28-6 down at 3/4 time!...allowed 178/34.
won 23-16 @ Miami...77/25...did well....of course they were a 3-6 team at the time!
lost @ KC...16-26....119/31
lost v. Miami...26-28...gave up 148/40.

A QB comparison:

Season:
Plummer...rating 90.2...60.7%...ypa 7.4...INT 7..WINS 13- 3
Brady......rating 92.3...63.0%...ypa 7.8...INT 14..WINS 10-6

SINCE wk.12: (even if we don't count the last 'meaningless' games for both)
Plummer...rating 84...60.3%...ypa 7.9...INT 4....WINS 4-1
Brady......rating 89...66%......ypa 7.3...INT 8....WINS 4-1

DIRECT COMPARISON: (4 games, @ KC, v. Oak, v. SD & @ Mia)
Plummer...rating 69.8...58.9%...ypa 7.6...INT 6....WINS 2-2
Brady......rating 76.0...58.9%...ypa 7.2...INT 7....WINS 2-2

So...we can clearly see that there just isn't anything at all between the two QB's!...but...
We've got a 13-3 team v. a 10-6 team, off a BYE, with the best legit rushing offense, the second best rushing D, a QB who throws less INTs, a defense that gets more INTs, a much better pass D (inc. more sacks), they've already beaten their opposition, have arguably the biggest home field advantage...allowing just 12.5 ppg at home!...and only laying a FG??!!

Too many people living off the memories in this one...Denver -3 thanks very much.

Agreed...the more and more I look into this game I love the Broncos...they have beaten three playoff teams in the regular season plus only a point loss to NY Giants

Last weeks game should have been over in the first half but NE couldn't get on the board...This will not get it done on the road

And its hard to argue against a team that has those credentials but as you said it is in the past...people are just buying into the hype and overlooking a team that has only three losses against a tough schedule...

People fell in love with this team last week because of their lopsided win...quite a few of us knew NE would win that game and they matched up against Jaxs very favorably...NE is fools gold for this week and I feel like Denver will handle this team pretty easily and I think they rush for 150 yards plus...I just can't see how you over look a thirteen win team and say they won't win at home when they have won every home game this season

well...have you considered that they didn't have Dillon plus many of their good defensive players were injuried?

allaround FYI Dillon is still hampered by an injury. He only had 40 yards against the Jags last week.

All in all, it's been a disappointing season for the former Bengal even when he's healthy he hasn't done much this year...it's been pretty much all Brady

the pats have an adv over den in the passing game, but that is all i see. den secondary is weak deep, if jage can pressure brady - i am sure den can. jags were awful last week and it had more to do with jags than ne. ne is better than they were teh last meeting and they have a swagger - which is nice.

i will say this, ne will seel out to stop the run and i hoe we are not depending on jake to win the game throwing :scared - he will add a scrambling threat that was totally non existent last week.. ..

either way, i'll be on the jacka$$es as they are more complete and they will have some success against the pats off that has went primarily to the pass as of late. the stats show 27 passes and 28 rushes last week, but i am sure the rushing came later - after they had a good lead.jmo

This is the primary reason I haven't bet on this game. Backing Jake Plummer in the playoffs is about as frightening as seeing Bea Arthur in a thong to me. Ok, not THAT frightening. But pretty damn close...

I've never in my life wanted to be wrong more than this, but betting against the Pats GETTING points is absurd!

Denver, PLEASE prove me wrong!! :mj14:

"Many"?...I believe Seymour was out (decent loss) and Bruschi who likely won't play in this one either.

As for Dillon...

Corey Dillon under 70.5 yards rushing

He's been <69 in 8 of 12.
The 4 he got more were against Jets (4th most rush yards allowed...even then it was less than 3 ypc!);
Buffalo twice (2nd most yards allowed) & Atl (7th most allowed @ 4.6!)

Denver are second best at stopping the run.
They've allowed >69 (to one person) in just 4 of 16 games this season;
@ SD (Tomlinson)...av. 130 @ 4.5
@ KC (Johnson)...av. 150 @ 4.6
@ NYG (Barber)...av. 138 @ 4.7
v. Washington (Portis)...av. 136 @ 4.2

NE gain just 94 @ 3.4

Dillon is being used as the 'power' back, and Faulk as the 'speed' guy in long yardage plays, so I can't see Dillon topping 70 unless he gets at least 25 touches...and I'll be surprised if he does.

Thanks for sharing your opinions everyone...always look forward to reading the replies.
...(with the complete exception of Beau Arthur and her underwear!! :cursin: )

Do you want Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and three points, or do you want Mike Shanahan, Jake Plummer and the home crowd?

I see the Patriots as a huge public play here.
Getting healthy, Tom Brady never lost a playoff game ect ect... All steaks come to an end and what better place for this one to end. Mile High
Baby. The stadium will be rocking and the Broncos will be running the ball. The Broncos are the only side to take here.

I don't understand why everyone is making Plummer out to be such a stiff!

The fact of it is that he has thrown exactly HALF of the int's that Brady has thrown this season (7 all up!)...
How many int's have NE got all season?? 10!...4th worst in the league, just ahead of defensive giants Oakland, Houston and Tennessee!!
(Yep, they got one last week, but Leftwich was forcing throws 21-3 down in the 4th quarter at about 60% health!)

Plummer has been at Denver for 3 years...2003-04 he threw just 7 int's!...(He didn't play v. NE...and interestingly enough NE won by just 4 points in a SB year with Danny Kannell at QB for Denver! :scared )
Granted, he threw 20 int's last season, but also 27 TD's in what was a much more pass-reliant offense.

Yes, Denver have lost 3 straight play-off games...but all as away dogs.
And yes, Brady has won 10 straight, but this year he has neither the ground game nor the defense to back him up.

So, I'll take Mike, Jake and 90, 000 Jo's! :mj14:

Whatever the outcome, this is the most highly anticipated game in the NFL this season. WOW WHAT A BIG GAME ON SATURDAY NIGHT!

Absolutely!!

I think both teams know how huge it is, not just for the obvious reason (it's a play-off game dumb-ass :mj07: ), but I think that both team feel pretty confident that they can beat (either team!) next week.
Effectively, there's a SB place a week early in this one.

Can't wait.
