the last time csu and detroit played on this floor, the vikings pulled off their biggest comeback in school history. (perhaps some here recall, lol) but the detroit led 44-23 at halftime. the titans hit a 3 on the first possession of the second half to go up by 24 points ..... and then imploded like few teams in college basketball ever have. from that point on, they were outscored 46-15. detroit scored 7 points in the final 12:00 and not only lost, but lost by 7. thats been the lone bright spot for csu against detroit in recent years because the titans have owned this team. every csu offensive possession seems to be a struggle against detroit. csu could potentially catch a huge break because brandon cotton might not play tonight after re-injuring his hand last week. detroit played without him last saturday against youngstown and (for the most part) had no offensive rhythm. detroit came from double digits down to beat youngstown. part of that was because udm really turned up the defensive intensity but part of that was also because youngstown blew a big second half lead for about the 20th time this season.

which provides a nice segue to the wright state/ysu game tonight. youngstown is easily the most improved team in the horizon. humphrey finally has some help and doesn't have to be a one-man show every night. juco transfer keston roberts has helped on the offensive end and crawford is shooting the 3 very well off the bench. but this is the first time all season where theres an overlay with youngstown. horizon games have an uncanny knack for being decided in the final minutes and youngstown laying 4.5 to 5.5 is definitely steep. wright state has rebounded from a truly pathetic effort on new year's eve (72-44 loss to akron where wsu looked like a division-III team) but they've now put together a few wins and ~~ voila! ~~ they're 7-6 overall and 3-0 and in a tie for first in the horizon. they're a really weird team. on some nights, they can look very good. on other nights, you'd think they're playing with blindfolds on. one scary number -- aside from the season opener against belmont, wright state hasn't scored more than 58 points on the road and has scored 53 or less in four of those five games. so maybe youngstown (-5) is justifiable. one good sign for wright state is that deshaun wood is finally starting to hit his shots. for awhile, he was leading the team in scoring but under 40% from the floor. he's up to almost 44% now (though he's still laying bricks from long range). this might be one of those games where the better overall team is getting points. but its tough to argue with youngstown's resurgence. its not a complete fluke. penguins are playing well and should probably have one or two more wins under their belt.

So is this a "for informational purposes only" post or are you playing a side?

just throwing the info out there. detroit/csu is almost impossible to pick a side. titans own csu but they looked lost for most of saturday's game without cotton. csu not as bad a team as their record would indicate. not in a hurry to back wright state on the road but youngstown minus the 5.5 (opener) was an egregious overlay imo. line settling back closer to where it should be now (3.5). detroit/csu line ALWAYS seems to be in the detroit -1.5 to -4 range when they play in cleveland no matter what year it is. im a little surprised that wright state was favored in cleveland... yet getting a few baskets in youngstown. youngstown and csu, imo, sre carbon copies of one another. part of me is hoping csu loses tonight and youngstown covers so i can hammer cleveland state on saturday in youngstown because thats a game csu can finally win.

bryanz-
i do think wright state can win tonight. i just think theyre a completely different team in dayton. before the season started, i pegged them for an upper-tier finish in the horizon. but i was taken aback by how awful they looked at akron on december 31st. my eyes hadn't seen such wayward shooting in quite awhile. teams like butler, milwaukee, and detroit all have the ability to win away from home. their games dont change. but with wright, they seem to lose "something" when they leave dayton. on paper though, theyre the better team overall. but ysu deserves credit for this mini-resurgence. wright by 10 tonight wouldnt tilt the world of its axis though.

i'll see what i can do. for now, im gonna be there for the akron game next week and the milwaukee game in mid-february

They did last year when I watched CSU vs. UIC. It was the only way I could get through the game.
