He was in New Orleans for 4 years and he got a promotion to head coach? :wtf:

I guess they don't have the balls to ask Farve to leave so they hire this wackjob as a coach to call his bluff.

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
"Bates spent about four hours interviewing with Thompson, and he said that it left him with the impression he was a serious candidate.

Bates, 58, said he was disappointed in Thompson's decision.

"It's rough," he said early Wednesday evening. "It's really hard. I felt good about my chances. It's a blow."

Bates engineered a turn-around for the Green Bay defense in his one season as coordinator, although his efforts were overshadowed as the team went 4-12. "............USA Today

WTF, not only does he hire a new guy with a bad track record for offense, but he goes and alienates the best D cooridinator all in one day! :cursin: I hope things work out with this new coach, but right now I am having serious doubts. Why did he not wait to speak with Kirk Ferentz?
Bubba, whats your take on this?

I was rooting for Bates all the way. From what Ive read he is the type of coach that inspires his players to be better. Constantly pushing them. That is what the whole team needs and he was the guy to do it. I dont know how long his contract was for but I cant see him sticking around after TT blew smoke up his ass.

The only possible reason I can think of that Mcarthy was hired was because he was Farves QB coack in 99. Maybe he is thinking that Farve will stay now.

Personnaly he should have hired the right person without regard to what Farve will do.
