Tehran plans a nuclear weapons test before March 20, 2006 – the Iranian New Year, moves Shahab-3 missiles within striking range of Israel

January 22, 2006, 9:30 AM (GMT+02:00)

Reporting this, the dissident Foundation for Democracy in Iran, a US-based watch group, cites sources in the US and Iran. The FDI adds from Iran: on June 16, the high command of the Revolutionary Guards Air Force ordered Shahab-3 missile units to move mobile launchers every 24 hours instead of weekly. This is in view of a potential pre-emptive strike by the US or Israel.

Advance Shahab-3 units have been positioned in Kermanshah and Hamad within striking distance of Israel, reserve launchers moved to Esfahan and Fars.

The missile units were told to change positions “in a radius of 30-35 kilometers” and only at night.

FDI reporting has a reputation for credibility. Western and Israeli intelligence have known for more than six months that Iran’s nuclear program has reached the capability of being able to carry out a nuclear explosion, albeit underground. It would probably be staged in a desert or mountain region and activated by a distant control center. Tehran would aim at confronting the Americans, Europeans and Israelis with an irreversible situation.

At the same time, an explosion of this sort would indicate that Iran is not yet able to produce a nuclear bomb that can be delivered by airplane or a warhead adapted to a missile. The stage Iran has reached is comparable to Pakistan’s when it conducted its first nuclear tests in the nineties and North Korea’s in 2001. All the same, an Iranian underground nuclear blast, which will most probably be attempted on March 22, would turn around the strategic position of all the parties concerned and the Middle East as whole.

The question now is: will the United States, Israel or both deliver a pre-emptive strike ahead of the Iranian underground test - or later? Or will Washington alternatively use the event to bring the UN Security Council round to economic sanctions? Tehran is already organizing to withstand economic penalties. For Israel, the timing is getting tight in view of its general election on March 28. Acting prime minister Ehud Olmert must take into account that a ruling party which allows an Iranian nuclear explosion to take place six days before the poll would draw painful punishment from the voter. According to a very disturbing report at the Telegraph, satellite images reveal secret expansion of Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility: Iran extends nuclear plant in secret.

""Iran has secretly extended the uranium enrichment plant at the centre of the international controversy over its resumption of banned nuclear research earlier this month, satellite imagery has revealed.

Seven buildings have been erected around the concealed centrifuges which Western governments fear will be used to manufacture weapons-grade uranium at the Natanz site, 200 miles south of Teheran.

The discovery has heightened fears that Iran is stepping up the pace of its suspected weapons programme, in breach of international agreements, since it removed International Atomic Energy Authority seals on nuclear equipment at the site 10 days ago.

Western intelligence agencies are focusing on alarming similarities in satellite imagery of Iran’s nuclear sites, which the regime claims are for civilian purposes, and atomic facilities in Pakistan used to make the raw materials for nuclear weapons, as they try to identify the purpose of the Natanz construction spree.

The building work took place unannounced during a 16-month pause in research and development at the site, while Iran engaged the West in protracted talks over its professed desire to develop nuclear power. The existence of the Natanz site was kept secret until it was exposed by an Iranian opposition group in 2002. Iran started to move funds out of the European banks on Friday to avoid possible financial sanctions after its scientists resumed work. The showdown has contributed to soaring world oil prices and a slump on Wall Street stock markets.

The Sunday Telegraph has seen recent United States intelligence analysis of satellite photographs of nuclear sites in Iran and Pakistan that strengthens fears that the Islamic regime is secretly developing atomic weapons under the guise of a supposedly peaceful power programme. “Iran’s facilities are scaled exactly like another state’s facilities that were designed to produce fissile material for nuclear weapons,” the US report concluded, using the phrase “another state” to refer to Pakistan for diplomatic reasons.""

i don't know where this is going, but something tells me it will get there soon......

whew.....

This is the country you should be worried about. These insane mullahs will get desperate if they are ever threatened from within. I would totally support the Israelis wiping this thing out.

It just really makes no common sense.

Is anyone able to tell me that Iran is going to get a nuke ready, and then deliver it on to Isreal ?

To do that would be annilation as their entire country would be nuked by the US and other Isreal allies.

They would be setting back the muslim way of life into the stone age.

I just dont see them being that stupid.

Its a detterant. I believe Iran would use it as a deterrant for US meddling in their affairs.

The young ones in Iran are getting very upset over no freedom. It creates big trouble for the mullahs continued rule.

Their president is suspected of being one of the hostage takers in 1979. They needlessly sacrificied hundreds of thousands of their young men to Saddams Machine Guns and Tanks in the Iran Iraq war. There will be a revolution. Also, this Leader they have now wants Israel to be wiped from the Map. I would be much more in favor of a military strike there than 5 more years of Police work in Iraq. However, that is a pipe dream. Israel may not leave this to chance. I would hope the world would applaud them.

scott...part of the reason this as all happening is that the cradle of civilization hasn`t progressed much past the stone ages.....

this nut has already stated that israel can be wiped out with roughly one or two nuclear bombs....he believes in the prophecy of the return of the mahdi...

""At a recent news conference, a reporter asked about the "superstition" concerning the return of the Mahdi, and was Ahmadinejad really serious about that. It's not a superstition, replied Ahamdinejad, and the return of the Mahdi is "pivotal". ...

he`s certainly serious about building a nuclear weapons program...so far,he`s been true to his word...

the israelis can do substantial damage....but they can`t destroy islam...or iran....

it`s well worth the carnage to remove israel from the face of the map....in this nut`s opinion...and that`s ridiculous...

remember saddam launching scuds into israel when we removed him from kuwait?...they did nothing to instigate the attack....and didn`t respond...

he was trying to goad israel into the war...so the muslim world would come to his aid...

think about it...if a nuclear exchange ever happened between israel and iran...israel would probably no longer exist...and i really believe that the u.s. would be reticent to start lobbing nukes into the middle east...

if that happens...then,you are truly talking armageddon...who knows how russia and china...pakistan and the rest of the muslim world would respond...

it`s unthinkable...and that`s why i think we hit saddam...because you can`t guess wrong when nuclear weapons are involved...

one thing i will say...and i`ve read a little on the subject....

i mean...we could wipe iran off the map..like they may in time,be able to wipe israel off the amap...it`s really horrible to even discuss...but...

if.......and i say if..... the U.S. military is really ever unleashed...i mean, let `er rip... the level of destruction they can inflict is beyond most people's comprehension.....

i don`t ever see this happening...hopefully

we have weapons systems..not even nukes...that are mind boggling...and more are coming...

the f-117a was in operation for many years before anyone even had an incline it even existed. and nobody else still can duplicate that 20+ year old tech....

the m-60...850 rounds without letting off the trigger...

and check this out:http://upi.com/SecurityTerrorism/view.php?StoryID=20060120-070112-5273r

the iraqi invasion....i know the aftermath is very difficult...but the actual military invasion...,iraq was supposed to be one of the preeminent armies in the middle east.....

it was ridiculously easy...

if you realize what the u.s. has at it`s disposal,i think we`ve shown incredible restraint after 9/11....

unfortunately,it`s possible that that very restraint has emboldened guys like ahmadinnerjacket..

Our mission all along should of been to change the shape of both Iran and Saudi Arabia through military force if needed instead of wasting valuable lives and resources in a country that was not known to harbor or fund terrorism. Now we have given countries in the middle east ideas on how to wage war against a superior fire power such as ourselves by the use of insurgents instead of the use of conventional military tactics.

Iran knows it would be the end of the world if they did it. Everyone knows it. Thats supposed to be why they dont do it.

Geezz Louise.

I agree thats why we went into Iraq. No way we could take a chance that nut Saddam had any nukes. We got to look at the big picture.

still laughing over the amadinnerjacket
