Brewer misses practice but could play WednesdayAssociated Press
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Corey Brewer's sprained right ankle has improved significantly, and he could be available for No. 5 Florida on Wednesday at South Carolina.
Brewer missed a second consecutive day of practice Tuesday, but he walked without crutches and participated in limited drills.
The sophomore forward, second on the team in scoring (13.6), rebounding (5.7) and assists (4.5), sprained his ankle at Tennessee on Saturday. Coach Billy Donovan initially said Brewer was doubtful to play against the Gamecocks.
The team said Tuesday that Brewer's status will be determined after shootaround Wednesday. Brewer has started all 50 games of his career.
If he doesn't play, the Gators would have only eight scholarship players available, meaning freshman guard David Huertas might have to step into a starting role at small forward. Huertas is averaging 3.4 points and 1.7 rebounds.
