Thanks Rex and good luck tonite.
Let me tell you one of my jury stories. First I have to tell you that I am 59 years old and have gambled since I was about 15 whether it was cards, horses or sports. Never really got heavy enough where it caused me any problems. Guess I am one of the lucky ones.
Anyway I got selected for a jury here in New Haven Federal Court to consider the conviction of a small time bookmaker out of Stamford, Ct. The guy was a mailman who was running numbers on his route and taking book in the evening and weekends.
I got as far as the final cut where you get interviewed by the judge and the opposing lawyers. They asked my if I would have a problem convicting stictly based on interpretation of the law. I reminded them we are living in a state with the most profitable casino, Foxwoods in the world, from which the state reels in $100M/year. We have so many type of lottery types and numbers that every time I go out for milk I get stuck behind some yahoo that is purchasing $50 worth of 20 diffferent varieties of scratch tickets.
I told the judge that if the state could figure out how to get a cut of this guys take we wouldn't all be sitting there wasting our time, with all the lawyers on both sides of the system making money while this poor guy is guilty of nothing more than trying to make a buck.
Needless to say I was told I could go home.
