I live 45 mins. west of the Burgh and as you can imagine the fans of the black and gold have already pushed this number to 5 1/2 here. I was at one local place today and watched them write about 7 Pitt. tickets in a row at this # in just a couple of mins. it's unbievable.

Hello bosbabiesarm...

I live within the confines of Pennslyvania and about 35 miles south east of Pittsburgh, apparently the local books out your way in Ohio do things differently with regard to when they take wagers on games.

Here some locals will take bets the day before a game but most do not take bets until the morning of the game itself.

I have heard that a few offshore sportsbooks offer a "Bookie" option which allows anyone to sign up and have the Sportsbook act as a "Silent partner" by taking all the wagers you enter...for a good piece of the action that is.

About 2 years ago a couple of guys from up around the Allentown Pa area tried to do this on their own by taking all the wagers and then plugging the bets into various offshores sites, this worked.....until they get caught and charged.

I know that no legal Casino/Sportsbooks exist in the state of Ohio because I have relatives that I visit there three or four times a year, thus I would suspect that they are probably using this "Bookie" option that I mentioned.

With regard to the line you say they gave you of Pittsburgh -5.5, that doesn't surprise me at all, year in and year out I wager on as well as against the Steelers and especially when the line is out of whack....when I want to wager against Pittsburgh I use local books because of the same generous lines, when I want to wager on them I use the offshores.

But everywhere is like that, I would imagine that locals in Seattle are only offering Seattle +3.5 right now because of all the local money coming in on them.

By the way, my relatives live on the other side of Youngstown in Niles Ohio, I also have family in Warren, every year the wife and I go to Cincy and Cleveland when Pittsburgh is playing on the road at those Stadiums and my wifes sister and her husband come stay with us when Cleveland is playing in Pittsburgh.

take care and good luck

Jim,

I believe those guys from Allentown were in w/ a guy from Toronto, OH just up the river from me. The Locals here take all action up to about 3 or 4 dimes on a single play. I'm pretty close w/ some of these guys and there gonna ride this one out. They have said this has been by far one of the worst years ever. Now they don't have a choice but to roll the dice here. Was just in Vegas last week and would of thought I was in Robinson twn. center mall w/ all the Pitt. fans in the casino's. Would not mine hearing from someone close to Seattle though.

Hello Bo..

It really doesn't surprise me with regard to your statement of seeing all those Steeler jerseys in Vegas, I would make a small wager that most of those jerseys were no older than a week or so.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have clearly supplanted Dallas as "America's team" and the joe public bettors are certainly all over the Steelers at the moment, but I think its for good reason when considering that Seattle is really a false #1 seed due to the schedule they played.

Seattle was able to pad their 13-3 regular season record with 6 wins from their divisional rivals who tallied a win/loss record of only 15-33 straight up for the year and was able to add on two more wins from Houston and Tenny who combined for a 6-26 record this year, thus, 8 of Seattle's 13 regular season wins came against teams that posted a combined record of 21-59 straight up.

I have already wagered on Pittsburgh -4 in this contest and I am currently going over the "Prop Plays", since I think both teams will be forced to the air I also think that the prop play of OVER 1.5 interceptions is a good prop and was able to get it at -175.

I would keep an eye on the results of the first half because historically the team that wins the game ATS has posted a record of 30-6-3 ATS in the first half, meaning of course that wagering on the team in the second half that won ATS in the first half is a very good idea, another interesting little tidbit is that the higher seed is only 1-7-2 ATS in the past 10 Super Bowls.

take care and be well my friend

Jim,

It's not like Sea. was barely getting by those teams they were dismantling them by an avg. score of 34 to 16. Hasselbeck is the better "QB" in this one right now (Ben has been hot in the playoffs ) but Pitt. has better "LB's" which should make for an interesting match up. I really can't see anyone w/ a lead more than seven. Pitt. is the favorite for a reason but a easy game I just don't see. The last 10 bowls up to 8 dogs have been good depending on what line you got on a couple.
