The Upstate
Born and raised in the Ville, a few things to do:

1) Fourth Street Live- downtown area with restuarants/barss/shops (Hard Rock Cafe, Lucky Strike, Maker's Mark bar, plus about two dozen other bars/shops/restuarants.

2) Bardstown Road- another restuarant/bar area with a more local flavor then fourth street live, I suggest eating at Jack Frys.

3) Derby Museum-at Churchill downs a lot of neat interactive stuff there.

4) Caesars-mentioned above.

5) Louisville Slugger Museum-downtown look for the enormous bat that is leaning on the building.

These are just a few things that come to mind, let me know if you want some more ideas.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the earlier thread but there are three riverboat casinos within one hour of downtown Cincinnati the closest being about 20 minutes away in southwestern Indiana. The clientele on weekend nights is similar to Las Vegas except for the cloths, money, cars and teeth.

The funny thing about the boats is that I never knew how many Asians live in this area. There are always a disproportionate number of Asians at the boats compared to the local demographics. Not that theres anything wrong with that.

If your lucky, you may see the big Ed at Bella, Nicholsons, Wooster Tavern or the Quarter. I'll be the very handsome fellow, tastefully dressed, with a very young arm piece hanging on his shoulder staring intensly into his eyes, listening to every word he has to say.

Eddie my man...I found out at 9am this morning that I matched at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, my number 1 choice. I know you are looking forward to me being your neighbor next year. See you July 1st. Now time to look for a place to live.

Any suggestions? Will be newly married. How are the apartments downtown? Townhouses on the skirts? Looking for something nice, but not 'mtv cribs' worthy.

EDIT:: Realized you answered this in the linked thread:

"If your looking around the city for places to live, as a young couple without kids, I would suggest Hyde Park, Clifton, or Mt. Adams. Close to entertainment but schools suck. Okay, now to the subject I know too well, drinking and dining."

Saint:

Glad to have you. Got to bone up on my dental malpractice plaintiffs claims. Looks like the local plaintiffs bar will be filing a whole bunch in the near future. Welcome to southwest Ohio.

Seriously, congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals. Don't expect a gift. Although I will let you buy me a beer at Nicholsons once you move here.

Not sure you and your future Mrs. Saint (by the way she's got to be if she's marrying you) want to live downtown. Our wonderful local government has turned what used to be a nice little midwestern city into kindof a ghost town after dark.

I really recommend Mt. Adams, Hyde Park or Northern Kentucky for up and coming, young hipsters like yourself and my future domestic relations client. Maybe Cllifton if you like the university atmosphere (UC). I think you'll find what I gather to be your socio-economic group more to your liking in those neighborhoods.

Downtown can be risky. More value on the westside in housing. But...................... its the west side. No self respecting capital driven, non-Cincinnatiian will live west of Vine Street. So, forget it.
Anyway, if you like quite English stlye conservative neighborhoods that are for families try where I live about 10 miles east of downtown in the village of Mariemont. Probably too family oriented for you at this stage of your life although good restaurants at the village square called the Quarter and National Exemplar. Also good artsy theatre for off the wall flicks at Mariemont theatre.

Anyway, if I can help, let me know.

Eddie,

Thanks for taking the time to post, it is very helpful. I will be on call and have to stay in-house 1 every 5 weeks so the safety of my fiance is a primary concern. I will steer clear of downtown. I've briefly looked up hyde park and the other places you suggested and they look spot-on. I will come up sometime in March or April for several days to look at some housing options. I will take you up on that offer for a beer.

Thanks again.
Dave
