Last season the Golden Panthers snapped a 13-game losing skid to Western Kentucky with a thrilling 79-77 win over the Hilltoppers.
The Hilltoppers' success this season can be attributed to the team's play at the offensive end of the court, where WKU is averaging a solid 79.1 ppg, while shooting an impressive 47.5 percent from the field. Anthony Winchester and Courtney Lee have been the two best options offensively for the Hilltoppers, as Winchester is posting 18.1 ppg, while Lee is scoring 17.8 ppg to go along with a team-best 6.7 rpg. In the team's recent victory over New Orleans, the Hilltoppers shot an impressive 50.9 percent from the field and connected on 7- of-21 shots from long range. Winchester paced the team with 14 points, while Benson Callier added 13 points to go along with nine rebounds. As for Lee, he scored just five points, but also recorded five assists and seven rebounds in the victory.
Unlike their counterpart, the Golden Panthers have been simply dreadful at the offensive end of the court, scoring a meager 60.4 ppg, while shooting 39.6 percent. Ivan Almonte has been the only real threat at the offensive end for the Golden Panthers, as the forward is posting 13.4 ppg to go along with a team-best 11.4 rpg. Elvis Lora is the only other player for FIU that is producing double figures, as the guard is averaging 10.3 ppg. In the team's setback to UL-Lafayette, the Golden Panthers shot just 37.5 percent from the field, which included a horrible 5-of-19 showing from behind the arc.
